Introducing myself and my journal: Voice to Voiceless

About Me:
I was born 30 years ago as the sixth child in a family of eight.
My parents were peasant farmers and now gone to be with the Lord.
I was bred in a little-known village of Kabuyefwe on the outskirt of Bungoma North District, Western Kenya.

Gnawing pangs of hunger and ravaging poverty remained our daily companion with dashed hopes for education. Yet still, with determination and resilience, have had education up to secondary level (pre-university), courtesy of the overwhelming support from well wishers.

In the meantime, journalism was the beat of my heart. In spite of the funding challenges for joining a media college, that has not stopped me from plunging into the news writing/reporting world.

In 2005 after successfully finishing high school I joined a leading local weekly publication as student trainee for three years.

While at “The Mirror Newspaper” was exposed to a busy newsroom environment where I acquired immense writing and reporting skills and knowledge that have remained an asset in my career.

Have also had numerous professional trainings which to a greater perspective have broaden my journalistic skills, editing skills, knowledge and story ideas.

Out of this resilience and determination for telling stories that push for change in my society, I have been nominated for an Award (Image and Voices of Hopes Award) in New York in late September.

My Passions:
Writing compelling stories that ignite debate and action

My Challenges:
Always seen/misunderstood as anti-government journalist

My Vision for the Future:
First, Communities that love and honor God. Free, fair and justly society for all

My Areas of Expertise:
Writing/Editing articles, listening and encouraging - biblically, initiating diologue, mobilizing people to participate in community projects
