Dearest Correspondents,

The magical day has finally arrived and off we race to the frontiers of new media!

Similar to the application process, you will receive regular notifications from World Pulse (and our partners) that will guide you through the training program over the next five months. These notifications will include information such as updates about the program, links to the learning material and assignments, case studies, and discussion questions.

Without further delay, let's dive in!

It is my absolute pleasure to introduce you to Cristi Hegranes, Founder of The Press Institute for Women in the Developing World. It is an honor to work with Cristi on the training portion of this program. Cristi will be introducing herself in separate post. Please extend a warm welcome to Cristi, who is joining us on our journey.

This first month focuses on news, ethics, interviewing, sourcing, and the World Pulse Voice. We have broken the learning material into two chapters. Chapter Two will be posted at the beginning of next week along with your assignment. On Thursday, Cristi will invite you to join is a lively discussion about the art of journalism.

Until then, please continue to connect with your mentors, set up Skype and PayPal accounts, and, of course, read the learning material!

With love,

Jennifer, Cristi, Elsie, Scott, and the World Pulse Team

Great questions!

Hi, Gifty!

1. Bookmarking VOF Classroom:

In explorer, bookmarks are called "favorites." Here is a short video that demonstrates how to add a favorite.

If you use Firefox, follow these steps:

  • Go to our classroom.
  • Click on "Bookmarks" in your browser toolbar;
  • Select "Bookmark This Page;"
  • Confirm you like the name of your bookmark;
  • Decide where you want to save it;
  • Add tags if you wish; and
  • Click on "Done."
  • 2. The assignment that you are referring to is an optional "assignment" that was posted by another PulseWire member to keep the Applicants group active. How confusing! I am creating a "Frequently Asked Questions" document and will be sure to include this one!

    3. You can ask me as many questions as you need. PST is Pacific Standard Time. A great resource is timeanddate.com The city you will want to select to see what time it is PST is Los Angeles.
