Welcome to all the Voice of Our Future Applicants!

We are overjoyed by the enthusiastic interest in Voices of Our Future... the applicants group currently has 574 members! Because we have so many applicants, we will be removing non-applicants from this group to minimize confusion. Please click here to confirm your participation: http://tinyurl.com/cf5yer

At last you are here! If feels as though we have been waiting for you for an eternity.

When I first had the vision of an online space where women like us could connect, speak out, and create solutions to global problems, many told me it was unrealistic.

How would women from other countries have access to computers? What good would women talking and sharing stories do for the world?

Yet, I knew deep in my bones that it would be like a lightening bolt to hear women’s voices awakening across the planet. I knew you would come. I knew that together we could create a safe space that has soul and power. I knew we could cry, debate, and laugh across any border—but most of all, I knew we would support each other.

So many in the world are suffering. The earth, she is suffocating. And those in power have few answers. The time is now. New voices are needed. Your wisdom is needed. Your courage. Your collaboration. Your poetry. Your clear vision. Your questions. Your doubts. Your fears.

No matter your first language, grammar or spelling, show the world your heart, your life, your community, your nation. Show the world your leadership. Create the future with your words.

The real journey starts this Wednesday. The world can’t wait. Let’s shake the earth!

Love,

Jensine

"Mama rural"

Glims of hope for Mama Rural

Bear fitted she comes,
Drowned in anguish for landlessness,
Voiceless in a cruel world,
Yet, feeding her oppressors.

She cursed the womb that bore her,
Appreciated with slaps,
And smiles in harasments,
Having no control over her sexuality.

Cursed and chased,
if barren.
Mocked and minimised,
when children fail.

Yea mama,
Shall you have cause to smile?
helpful yet hopeless.
Your womb was blessed,
We'll go for you. Glims of hope mama.

Glims of Hope

May the glims of hope shine down on all the mamas across the world.

Ever since i was young, i always knew that there was something that i was meant to do - to change the status quo.
From an early age i knew there was something that needed to be changed. As i grew older i grew in strength and knowledge. I challenged myths, stereotypes, beliefs, attitudes and perception in my family and community. My parents used to say, "you act like a boy. Maybe you were meant to be one." My dad would always say, "We will call you John because you don't want to act like a girl."
I have always been a leader and i stand up for i believe in even if it means challenging the status quo. Perhaps my parents realised this when i was young thus they ran short of ways to tell me of my strenghts hence their popular phrase, "You should have been a boy."
I was good in all subjects and many thought that i would become a doctor. All my teachers were surprised when i decided to study journalism and media studies. Like a doctor, i wanted to heal the world through sharing information and using communication technologies and approaches.
When i first read about the Voice of our Future Applicant, i was excited. I was moved to raise a voice for marginalised and vulnerable people. I instantly knew that this is what i had been waiting for. To use Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to raise the Voice of the Voiceless. To challenge how people communicate and to express my ideas and thoughts while manipulating techologies to address the needs of people at grassroots level.
This is FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION at its best because it enables women to seek, receive amnd impart information across frontiers. How best can one desrcibe Article 19 of the UN Declaration.
I can't wait for the real journey to begin. I'm geared to go.

Warm regards,

Gertrude Pswarayi

Heal the world

Gertrude - I too share your passion that communication can heal the world. We are so excited to take this real journey alongside you! Here on PulseWire, the technology is just beginning - and the site is not yet as easy to use for all women as it can be. Surely you have discovered challenges. But together, through listening to our community, we will improve and make this the site of our dreams, making communication and collaboration effortless and life-changing. Let the ideas flow freely!
Love,

CHANGE WE WANT

This was so thoughtful of you. Some people are not aware of what is happening to some other women out here especially those who are advantaged and have no challenges in their lives. Through this forum women can learn of plights of other fellow women and since we are women we would be to understand best what other women are going through and can even come up with ways of helping them .

l really hope and pray that through this site we can make a change. Make sure that women are given the rights that they deserve and that equality is practiced so that everyone can get equal chances in life to do what they desired and lead a happy and comfortable life. Women should be allowed to express the feeling and voice their opinions without fear. We should be seen as people who can also channel their energy to the betterment of the world and really do well.

This is our chance and we can do it. Let's start the journey to changing this world and making it a nice place for all of us especially us women. We have to uplift all of us. For us to succeed we have to be one thing and speak one language. Our freedom.

Jensine's picture

Let's do it!!

Phylis,
Your words have deeply touched me. I agree, this is our chance. There is no force on earth greater than the power of women connected. We have had our heads down feeling alone for too long, let us raise our heads, see eye to eye and grasp hands for our collective freedom. Together, anything is possible.

We will shake the world

These are encouraging words,i have no doubt in my heart that we are going to shake the whole world through this program. Our voices would come out strongly to reach the world. I want to encourage all of us to do this wholeheartedly, this is our chance, the whole world would see us as people who can work together in unity and that if we are given the chance we can perform, we can make things happen.Lets show them that instead of fighting one another,we can help each other, we can be our sister's keeper.I am ready for this journey and i know we will succeed as we speak with one voice.

Powerful

Jensine,

Your words are undeniably powerful and, as you referenced, so many passionate and proactive women who have purposefully joined the "Voices of Our Future" group make this initiative a recipe for success!

Still, it is not merely about our voices, but also about the knowledge, emotion, and action that they elicit. The "insider" access that each of us is privy to, as a result of these global perspectives and information sharing, is nothing short of pioneering and is certainly a jumping-off point for making the positive, effective changes that we want to see in our world.

I am reminded of a famous quote by Margaret Mead that seems apt given where we have been and where we will be going.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."

With admiration,

Jackie

More than voices

So true! It is how the voices inspire and move us to action that counts. And yet, it is so important that we must first listen and understand women in their own words before we take action - especially in a world where women do not yet have equal voice in any nation. We'll be there every step of the way! Thank you for your sistership on this journey!

Formidable

Hi Jensine your vision was quite formidable.
Once one has a vision and the drive , it is always good to put it in motion no matter the odds. I guess why they say once there is a will, there is always a way. I wonder if at the beginning you had an idea of the magnitude of this vision of your.
Thanks a great deal for this wonderful initiative of yours and for giving each one of us an opportunity to learn from each other. Today the world is being referred to as global village and such forums ascertain that fact.
All i can wish is God's guardians and speed.
