VOF Week 1: Dealing with Web 2.0
To sit down in front of a computer is something really important for me. I know that lots of women can´t not do this, neither in my country nor in other countries. In general, although women are half of the world or more, access to to mass media is limited, sometimes nearly imposible, so to have the possibility to use tools involved in Web 2.0, I think is a challenge, an opportunity to communicate what we have to say. In my case, I am eager to know stories of women of other countries. Probably, I will never know them personally but I can learn about their own life experiences and I can share with them women situation too.
I consider that network is an important help. It helps to link women from different cultures and languages. Women organizations used to place information about different types of campaings, a lot of information that is useful for other women in other part of the world. There are some common problems that women face. Sometimes, one can feel that one is alone, but when one know that there are groups of women working to help others, it gives a feeling to be part of a community. As solutions, I could say that network, sense of community, sense of security in the use of new technologies, erase borders, possibilities to listen and to be listened are something that helps to empower women.
If the voices of women with a good economical situation or status are not taken into account, many times it is worse for the ones that live in underdeveloped countries and from indigenous origen. Mass media sometimes covers only what men have to say. To navigate in the internet and to use these tools gives me a feeling of strenght and motivation. I am in process of learning. When I opened a gmail account I was surprised and when I wrote my first posts I was also surprised. Insecure at first, but step to step I am gaining confidence and this has a positive meaning for me.

Keep writing as you do !!
I love the way that you describe your experice, because in fact is the experience of many women around the world ... i really would like to hear more of the indigenous reality, because as you well know, here in Mexico we still have a discrimination politics against them and i think that we have to go far to be able to hear their voices, not only among american indigenous, but from all around the world.... i really can feel that your voice is coming direct from your heart and your post really touched my soul .... in some way, i felt you close of me and my own experience as mexican women ... keep writing as you do !!
A hug from Mexico Cristina !! Regards: Xthina " )
Recuerdos. Xthina " )

Hello Xthina,
It encourages me to receive your comment. I think step by step, we as women can advance. I think it is important to keep a spirit of community and sharing. I am strongly convinced that broaden possibilities to visibilize voices of everybody is really a job that should always continue.

What wonderful work!
Hello Cristina,
Thank you so much for sharing your perspective about Web 2.0. You have wonderful ideas, and a great way of writing them down for everyone to read. It was such a treat to read your entry...I felt so inspired! Especially when you say that step-by-step you're gaining confidence. I can't wait to read more from you! I too am learning, and taking steps on the journey toward being fully confident in my ability to change the world for the better! Sometimes it's hard to remember, so I am thankful to have PulseWire as a way to connect with more people.
You seem to have a great ability to express how you see the world. I look forward to hearing more from you, and more about you in the next weeks. I hope that you keep up the good work and share more of your personal experiences. We are here to hear your voice! Thank you for sharing.
Blessings,
Scott
Hello Scott,
Your words are very encouraging for me. Thanks a lot. There are a lot of stories in different circumstances to be told. My wish is to continue writing about these stories.
Kind regards,
Cristina
I was insecure, too!
Cristina,
Have you ever had that dream where you show up at school with no pants on? It's a common dream in the States... I share that dream because it's how web 2.0 made me feel when I dipped my toes in its waters for the first time. Your writing brought this dream back to me, which makes me smile.
What a delight to be one of your Listeners this week! I really liked your first sentence.... I imagine you sitting in front of your computer right now, reading this comment. Great use of imagery.
I look forward to reading more and more of your stories. My secret hope you will start to weave your beautiful photos into your stories.
Love,
Jennifer
