"VOF Week 1: My Ladder.

Web 2.0 is my ladder.I look at her with awe and amazement.I handle her with respect, though she is quite friendly.Sometimes she is my teacher, and sometimes she behaves like a stubborn sheep, not moving an inch whatever the circumstances.Sometimes, during the floods, she becomes my boat...crossing the deepest waters with me,and taking me to safe habors!...oh! and she's my telephone,and...

As we chatted with Jensine at the AWID Conference in Cape Town,we tried to imagine how long and what strength it might have taken to organize the Fourth World Women Conference in Beijing about fourteen years back:It was incomparable to the modern times. The times of web 2.0.Now,the global women's empowerment movement is made more managable by the use of web 2.0.We can virtually share everything, from clips,to news,to the Pope's comments on the use of condoms...I learnt even more about it in a pre-conference at Monkey Valley, and realised that it has more abilities than i thiught.Yes-solutions are brought since we can talk in one voice from differnt corners of the world, and share solutions.Information is power, and here it is.

This is the paragraph i was wanting to skip to all the time.Web 2.0 has empowered me in such a short time in Life! I have never had more friends, read more articles, laughed and cried with other people from all over the world through web 2.0.PulseWire has been my major tool, and email too.Now i can count on numerous achievements, from personal,to local, national and international communities. My latest achievement is by getting a scholarship for my training as a HIV Counselor.I am able to put food on the table, and to do the things that make me feel like a woman.I am able to travel widely, and share experiences and ideas, especially in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

I know no other road,or forum.

And my greatest amazement,is that my feet ever clings to the rungs of my ladder. Can anyone surely slip, and if they do,will the rest of their web 2.0 comrades let them fall?

With awe and amazement,and appreciation,

Leah.

I love the image of the Ladder

Auma,

Look at how many comments your week 1 assignment has attracted. Written language comes to life with fresh, clear, strong images- the Ladder! Web 2.0 is so much like a ladder; I hadn't thought of it like that. You are climbing and checking the view from each rung. I can only imagine that you will climb all the way to the top, return to the ground, get more ladders, and tell all your friends to climb high- don't you think? Don't you see yourself as that type of leader? I do!
I really enjoyed reading your post- I could feel your presence.

Knowing that you just got a scholarship for your HIV counselor training...how will you use Web 2.0 in this process? Will you share others' stories? Will you tell about your training? What is your greatest vision for Web 2.0? I have had smart leaders tell me to dream as big as I can. They say, go bigger. Go bigger. No, go bigger. If you went as big as you could go, what would that look like? Will you share your big vision with us?

Auma, you have done such good work here. I'll be reading and climbing with you on our ladder.

Warmest wishes,
Laura

Leah.... this moves me to tears. You have become the perfect reflection of our dreams for PulseWire. This community which has grown so quickly and fruitfully has become a chorus of beautiful voices that sometimes sing as soloists and other times, in choir. All in perfect harmony but some with the rich deep baritone of sorrows and hardship, while others take flight with the soulful joy of the most beautiful songbirds. Should one voice become silent, the others carry the song until that voice rises up again. We are all in this chorus together, and for that, I feel so blessed.
