The ribs to Ugandan Presidential Candidates, who can make the First Lady?

Abed Bwanika and Gladys Namusuwe, PDP
Dr. Abed Bwanika is running for the second time as a flag bearer of People’s Development Party. He finished fourth in the last election. The veterinary Doctor is also a Pastor at Christian Witness Church in Kampala. He married Dr. Gladys Namusuwe and they have three sons. Gladys is a lecturer in the department of zoology and a specialized fish biologist at Makerere University.
Beti Namisango Turwomwe Kamya, UFA
She is the president of the newly formed Uganda Federal Alliance (UFA) and MP Rubaga North, she is the only woman in the presidential race. Kamya lost her husband Spencer Turwomwe with whom they had three children about eight years ago and she decided not to marry again. ‘’My life with Spencer was so special that I do not want to giveup, he was a hunk, tall, witty, and had great sense of homour, democratic and intensely honest. I just don’t see any man wearing his shoes” she said. Kamya gets many advances from men, “a lot of them. One strange one was from a 20- year-old boy who wanted me for a sugar mummy. I told him to get lost. Friends also try to hook me up with widowers, divorcees ets but I am not interested and tell them so.”

Bidandi and Susan Ssali, PPP
Jaberi Bidandi Ssali is the flag bearer of the People’s Progressive Party. He is well known figure in sports and political circles. The former minister, team manager Uganda Cranes and MP started politics in 1962 whenhe joined UPCas a member and cadre for the party’s central region. Father of 12 children has been married to Susan since 1969. Very little is known publicly about his wife of 41 years.

Kizza Besigye and Winnie Byanyima, IPC
Warren Kizza Besigye Kifefe is running for the third time against his former bush colleague and patient. The retired colonel and chairman of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) is now running as a leader of a coalition of opposition parties Inter Party Cooperation (IPC). His wife Winnie Byanyima formerly MP for Mbarara Municipality and is currently a Director for Gender at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Headquarters. The two got married in 1998 and have a son Anselm Besigye. Winnie was the first female aeronautics engineer in Uganda and holds a MCS and BSC in Mechanical and aeronautical engineering from Manchester University. She was the first African woman to win Zonta International’s Amelia Earhart Fellowship. She is said to have been a childhood friend to the current president Museven.

Norbert and Naomi Mao, DP
Norbert Mao is running as a flag bearer of Democratic Party (DP) after becoming its first president outside Buganda. The Chairman of Gulu District (former rebel base and a war torn area in Northern Uganda)is a Lawyer and former MP for Gulu Municipality. Amidst tribal segregation Mao proves to the public as he a fluent speaker of the major languages in Uganda. Mao is married to Naomi, an independent film maker and they have two sons, Nicholas and Nathan. The two childhood friends became lovers. Naomi’s laid back personality did not fit well in politics however now that her husband is standing for presidency; she has to surrender her privacy because she will often have to appear besides him during the campaigns.

Olara Onunnu, UPC
Olara who recently won the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) presidency .His bachelorhood status raised controversy and some critics have predicted that a man without a wife cannot be trusted with a nation but the learned presidential aspirant explained that he has been busy fighting for human rights and hundreds of orphans, he referred to his UPC forefather, Milton Obote who won elections in 1963 as a bachelor to prove that marital status should not be a matter of contention. Addressing a rally in Kabale he said “I am now available to the bakiga ladies and hope the men will support me to become their muko (inlaw)”

Yoweri Kaguta and Janet Kataaha Museveni, NRM
Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is the incumbent seeking election for his fourth term as the president of the Republic of Uganda, he is the flag bearer of National Resistance Movement (NRM). He married his wife Janet Kataaha in 1973. Janet who is currently the first lady is also minister of states for Karamoja, MP Ruhaama County and founder of UWESO (Uganda Women’s Effort to Save Orphans). She is a graduate teacher by profession, a model Christian with strong advocacy of morality among the youth and has been active in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
