A law to love?

Today i read on BBC that China is going to try and implement a law that makes it illegal to ignore someone in need of help. This comes in as an out cry over the lack of compassion that was shown to the 2yr old girl that was a hit- and -run

I read this and thought to myself, \"how do we get to a place of no compassion that we need the law to make us compassionate?\"

Since the beginning of time, the world has known and i believe the world will continue to know about compassionate people.

A story is told, from the Bible, about a man, it is believed he was Jewish that was beaten up by thugs and left by the roadside to die. A priest walked by, saw the man but did nothing. A religious guy, a temple helper, walked by, saw the beaten man and did nothing. Then a Samaritan walked by( Samaritans and Jews despised each other), saw the man and felt sorry for the man. He went over to the man, nursed his wounds and then took him for more treatment and paid the bill. The priest had all the capacity to help, he was a priest, but he did not. The temple helper, could have helped too, you would expect him to at least carry the man into the temple and shelter him but he didn't. But the Samaritan helped. Enemy or foe? If you ask me, a true friend is one that helps you when you are down. The Samaritan did not even think about the \"bile\" that was between Jews and Samaritans. He simply acted. He did what any other human could have done-should have done.

So when i saw the shocking story of the little 2 yr old girl , i felt so sorry for her, and i too wondered why nobody stopped to help her, at least the reported 18 people that walked by. I believe they had their reasons.

Indifference makes an excuse, love finds a way.

But it does not change the fact that it was wrong. In my eyes, it was wrong. I look at what is done in this website, people speak out about all sorts of injustices being carried out all over the world. People write stories, people share and open up their hearts on the plight of women, men and children. We listen, we read the stories, we act, we try to do something.

So why do we help? why do we carry people's voices across countries and speak for them? Why are you passionate about helping someone in need, and if you are not, what is your excuse?

I do what i do because i care. China does not a need a law to make them care, neither do we. I believe that at the core of every human soul is the need to be seen, heard, accepted, loved, appreciated, understood, noticed, recognized, adored-and any other positive thing that we all would love to experience.

If it were you that lay on the roadside, wouldn't you want to be helped?
