Hello World Pulse Community!

I have worked on integrating gender equality into organizations as well as changing attitudes around sexual harassment in workplaces in Canada (for many organizations including non-governmental organizations working internationally) and this can have its challenges. I have some resources that I can share on this topic, but am not sure where on World Pulse to post them so thought I would start this discussion to see if there is a need to share strategies and exhchange resources on how to integrate gender equalityin organizations.

Looking foward to connecting with you all!

Adriana

Yes, I would love to read these strategies! I think NGOs are in denial that sexual harassment is an issue in their work places. Tips on how to start the conversation are very appreciated!

Hi Jayne,

Nice to meet you!  Good point on NGOs in particular.   One of the things I think is central for NGOs is their values, or their mission and sometimes a place to start the conversation is examining whether certain behaviours are in line with those values, since that is supposed to be the central purpose of the organization!

In terrms of training regarding sexual harassment, intervention theatre or roleplaying might be interesting sometimes, and getting others to intervene to determine a better course of action in line with the values of the organization.

With regards to initiating new gender equality initiatives in an organization (not necessarily sexual harassment, but others, like starting a gender action plan or a staff survey to see where the organization is at regarding gender equality), it is important to acknowledge the work that has alreaady been done (if some has been done in this regard) and to convey the message that we are building on those developments so we are creating a dialogue and minimize resistance.  What are some strategies that you have?

Specifically in terms of sexual harassment, Stop Violence against Women, A Project of the Advocates for Human Rights has some online training available at this link below which can be interesting for ideas for specific training on sexual harassment:
