Maternal Mortality has cut many dreams short

She was young, a first time Mom, she had to undergo cesarean section. Plans were also in place to formalize her union with her partner - an event they longed for; to exchange marriage vows in the presence of loved ones.

She had a baby boy. Days afterwards she became uncomfortable and noticed fluid coming out from her incision. Alas, the procedure was not properly done - her intestine was affected. She would later go on to have three more corrective surgery but it was too late; the first was fatal.

She was in the intensive care unit battling to survive to finally be with her baby, she looked forward to motherhood. The health professionals did all they could but it was too late. She died; with her dreams. She had a promising life.

Mercy was yet another victim of unprofessionalism - an unqualified medical personnel, who had no business cutting her open. We have the power to stop his type.

I am livid. I demand justice when the family is done grieving her loss; would they ever? Who would fill the vacuum her death created in her son's life.

It is painful that even with her death, there is huge medical bills to be paid. I held a fund raiser for the cause.

Nigeria has a high rate of maternal mortality, it is high time for a major overhaul of health policies. Women with purpose have died in the hands of quacks - enough is enough.

Let us raise our voice against maternal mortality. I need crusaders.
