No Women No Peace

How do we ensure that women are involved in Peace talks? How do we use our voices and stand in solidarity together to ensure that women have a seat at the table? What should the role of the local governments be in involving women? How about the International community?

No Women No Peace is an international campaign launched by GAPS (Gender Action For Peace and Security). The campaign focuses on the idea thatWomen have the right to shape peace processes and contribute to the rebuilding of their societies. They have gender-specific experiences in conflict, which should be reflected in conflict prevention, reconstruction and peace building. Manywomenrecognizethelinks between wartime violence andthe violence that continues post-conflict.Attached is a link to a short video produced by GAPS that highlights some of the issues that face women in conflict areas.

Two UN surveys of peace agreements over the last few decades demonstratethat only1 in 40(2.5%) of signatories of peace agreements were women between 1992-2008, and only4%were women between 1992 and 2011.

Women are a prime target in conflict. Yet when it comes to building peace, women are systematically excluded. You cannot build peace when women are not invited to the table.

I would love to hear your thoughts.
