A global women’s human rights activist for twenty years, Amy Logan is on a mission to empower women, girls and male allies through her corporate gender equality consulting, non-profit board leadership, public speaking, advocacy, campaigning, filmmaking, writing, research, leadership development and executive coaching.
Amy is President of the US National Committee for UN Women San Francisco Bay Area where she has led a turnaround of the organization and presented the HeForShe Champions for Change Celebration, Global Voices Film Festival at Lucasfilm and Stop the Traffic! panel discussion on human trafficking. She is planning a high-level global panel on women’s economic empowerment in Spring 2017.
An expert on “honor killing”, Amy was a cast member and consulting producer of “The Price of Honor”, a 2014 multi-award-winning documentary about the 2008 “honor killings” of Amina and Sarah Said by their father, Yaser Said, outside of Dallas, Texas. The film was the catalyst to get the FBI to put Yaser, who remains at large, on the Top 10 Most Wanted List. In 2015, Amy screened the film and moderated a panel in the US Capitol building sponsored by three Congresswomen with the US Justice Department, the World Bank and 17 NGOs in support of CEDAW.
Amy was the first to establish a thoughtful theory on the origins of “honor violence” based on scholarly research and published it in The Seven Perfumes of Sacrifice, her critically acclaimed novel about the search for the divine feminine and the ancient, lost origins of “honor killing” in the Middle East, lauded by former Egyptian First Lady Jihan Sadat, Publisher’s Weekly and Kirkus Reviews.
An expert speaker on call for the US Speaker Program of the US State Department, Amy has given keynote presentations at TEDxSacramento, UN Foundation, World Affairs Council, International Women’s Forum, and Women in STEM Summit. She has presented her research at New York University’s Global Secularisms conference, Oxford University’s Women’s Leadership Symposium, The International Feminist Journal of Politics’ Gender and Crisis in Global Politics conference at the University of Southern California, and the Gender and the Law conference at Dokuz Eylul University and Gediz University in Izmir, Turkey.
A 2016 Delegate to the UN’s 60th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women and the White House Summit “The United State of Women”, Amy serves as the Chair of the Global Advisory Board of the Women’s E-Learning in Leadership Project at George Mason University, and as a member of the global advisory boards of World Learning, Women’s Voices Now, the Muslim American Leadership Alliance and the documentary “Honor Diaries”.
