3) International Women's Health & Human Rights (free on-line course/MOOC)
From Jul 10 to Sep 5 (flexible starting date).
This course provides an overview of women's health and human rights issues, beginning in infancy and childhood, then moving through adolescence, reproductive years and aging. We will consider economic, social, political and human rights factors, and the challenges women face in maintaining health and managing their lives in the face of societal pressures and obstacles. The course focuses on \"critical issues,\" namely those that may mean life or death to a woman, depending on whether she can exercise her human rights. These critical issues include poverty; discrimination against women; unequal access to education, food, paid work and health care; forms of violence, in the home and in war and refugee circumstances; maternal health; and sex trafficking of women. Our MOOC will have a special focus on creating a network of engaged participants to share experiences and to take part in interactive discussions and cooperative exercises. We ask participants to engage with the communities they live in, in order to deepen their understanding of the issues and tie academic ideas to real-life circumstances.

4) Thomson Reuters Foundation’s Making Video News Training program for South East Asia
Applicants are invited to take part in five day training course that will take place in Hanoi (Vietnam) from Aug 11 to Aug 15, 2014. The goal of this program is to teach creative approaches to producing TV news stories. Subjects include research, writing for TV, camera work and editing. The class will be run by senior Reuters television journalists. Eligibility: a) must be from South East Asia and be working as broadcast journalists and currently working as a journalist or regular contributor to broadcast media organizations; b) must be able to demonstrate a commitment to a career in journalism in their country; c) must have at least two years’ professional experience; d) must have a good level in spoken and written English. Bursaries would include economy travel expenses (for participants travelling to Vietnam) and accommodation.

This course is designed to stimulate problem-solving, so participants can capitalize on change & diversity. A broad review of the creative process, students will apply fast failure, differentiation, & value creation techniques to help them become change agents. Consisting of 5-10 videos & readings, the course foregoes exams & quizzes, relying on creative exercises & reflection papers for students to demonstrate their mastery of course content. There will one per week (total = 6), required reflection submissions for a Statement of Accomplishment, & an additional 12 peer reviews during the entire course for a Statement of Accomplishment with Distinction. While the official language of the course is English, the Chinese translation is provided to ease the experience of our Chinese student population.

The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAC) in collaboration with the Fondazione CRT and the Italian Government invites youth from the Euro-Mediterranean region to participate in a 7-day training program aimed at enhancing the skills needed to boost a business idea with a social mission, and be a powerful motor of economic development and social inclusion. T he program targets young people from communities struggling with tensions or marginalization linked to cultural and/or religious differences and at the start-up phase of their social enterprise which seeks to address these challenges. 9) Atlas Corps Fellowship for Young NGO Leaders
The fellowship program aims to address critical social issues by developing leaders, strengthening organizations, and promoting innovation through an overseas fellowship of skilled nonprofit professionals. Fellows are placed in US non-profit organizations for 50-weeks volunteer service. The fellow is offered with living stipend, travel expenses (economy class round trip from and to fellow’s home country and fellowship host city), health insurance, end of service award ($1,000) and visa expenses (reimbursement). 10) Intl Conference: Institutionalization of Child Rights in the Digital Future (Oct 16-17; Istambul, Turkey)
The conference will be co-hosted by the UNICEF CEE/CIS Regional Office, the UNICEF Turkey Country Office and the communications faculties of eleven Turkish universities – namely, Ankara, Anadolu, Bilgi, Gazi, Galatasaray, İstanbul, İstanbul Aydın, Kocaeli, Konya and Mersin. This event is being organized to coincide with the twenty-fifth anniversary of the adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child by the United Nations General Assembly. UNICEF is making use of the anniversary both to celebrate the progress made over the past quarter of a century and to draw attention to outstanding inequity. The goal is to generate new ideas for upholding the rights of children – especially the most disadvantaged, excluded, and vulnerable – in the new and very different era that lies ahead. It will address both the challenges and the opportunities which children and young people encounter in the communications and digital environment. 13) Grant Proposals on Education, Public Health and Sustainable Development
The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) Creative Network is accepting grant proposals from the networks and cultural organizations from Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) member countries for establishing and/or strengthening of bi-regional cultural networks connecting Asia and Europe. Thematic Areas: 1) Culture; 2) Economy; 3) Education; 4) Governance; 5) Public Health; 6) Sustainable Development. Grant proposal can be made for up to SGD (Singapore Dollars) 25,000 which can be maximum 50% of the total eligible costs for project. The proposed project must take place between April 1st and Nov 30 2015. 14) Know-how Exchange Programme Italy 2014
The purpose of this programme is to contribute to the development of the CEI region, bolstering social cohesion and economic dynamism while strengthening the cooperation between the CEI member states. Any grant awarded under this Call for Proposals shall not exceed fifty per cent (50%) of the total cost of a given project, and the maximum grant amount allocated to a single project cannot exceed forty thousand euro (€40,000). Eligibility: The applicant shall: 1) be from organisations registered in CEI member states which are also members of the European Union, i.e. Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Romania, the Slovak Republic and Slovenia; 2) be public and private sector bodies, international and non‐governmental organisations operating in the public interest, e.g. national, regional and local authorities, education/research institutions, environmental organisations; 3) demonstrate and give evidence of their experience in the sector of intervention, and of their capability to deliver the proposed project results; 4) be directly responsible for the preparation and management of the project for all its duration. 20) Prevention of Violence Against Women and Girls: Innovation grants
Program: ‘What it takes to Prevent Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG)?’.The primary aim of the program is to build knowledge on what works to prevent VAWG. 21) The Enabling Writers Global Competition
This is a global prize competition to incentivize the development of software solutions that allow writers to easily create and export decodable and leveled fiction and non-fiction readers in mother tongue languages to help early primary students (ie. grades one to three) learn to read. It aims to spur the development of software that would allow writers to use an easy step-by-step process, on a computer or mobile device, to create texts that follow tested early-grade reading instruction methodologies. Prizes: $100,000 to grand prize winner; $12,000 each to top three finalists; other Prizes: invitations to exclusive events; global recognition from ACR GCD; expert feedback on their software from child development and digital education specialists. 22) Global Development Network (GDN): Building Research Capacity program
The GDN is accepting ‘Expression of Interest’ from organizations in Least Developed Countries for its project on Building Research Capacity in those countries. Proposals should be made of demand-led programs designed to support the contending institutions in addressing their research capacity gaps. These projects should be aimed at raising and strengthening their research and outreach skills in a sustainable manner. Up to four research institutions from least developed countries will be selected on the basis of a 24 month (two year) research capacity building program that they will design and propose. The GDN will partner with the selected four institutions refine, implement and monitor the projects. The grant for each selected institution will range between US$ 40,000-US$ 100,000 per year, dependent on the scope and success of the proposed program. 23) The University of Delaware’s Horn Program / Diamond Challenge
The challenge is a real world business concept competition with an educational purpose. Participating students will work in teams of 2-4 to prepare and submit a written concept for a business or social enterprise. They will also prepare and deliver a 5-minute pitch and answer questions about their concept. They will be supported by a curriculum developed on real world best practices for conceiving and validating new business ideas. The implementing partners will be provided training, modest pilot funding (up to $3,000 in milestone payments) and project management assistance. 27) The Sustaining Health initiative / Wellcome Trust
Proposals should be designed to open up new research avenues, ultimately leading to work that will have a significant impact on human health. As general guidance, awards are of the order of £250,000. Aims: a) pilot projects may address any aspect of the interplay between health, environment and nutrition but key is a focus on health. 29) FRIDA - The Young Feminist Fund (third call for proposals)
This is the only youth-led fund focused exclusively on supporting global young feminist activism to advance social justice movements and agendas. FRIDA was created to bring new resources and new opportunities to young women and trans* youth globally. We believe that supporting young feminists is key to the expansion, rejuvenation and sustainability of women’s movements and organizations, both now and in the future. To date, FRIDA has completed two grant cycles in 2012 and 2013, and cumulatively supported 32 different groups of young feminists in 28 different countries around the world and awarding a total of 196,000 USD in direct grants. We intend to support up to 18 new young feminist groups led by young women and transgender youth under 30 years of age.

30) Sustainable Communities in Central America and the Caribbean Phase II - Request for Proposals (RFP)
Objective: to strengthen the capacity to build sustainable communities in the context of the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA) though Public Private Partnerships. If you are an organization with programs, projects or activities fostering self-reliance for the refugees and displaced people anywhere around the globe, this opportunity is for you! If you are not the actor but know an organization working on the sector, Submissions for the $100,000 International Prize must be from organizations operating internationally, registered as charities, which can also elect to nominate a project by a registered partner or affiliate organization. There are no geographical limits on the locations of submitted projects. The submitted project must: a) Benefit refugees or displaced people; b) Be initiated no earlier than 1 May 2011; c) Focus on helping refugees and/or displaced people. The applicants must be able to show that there have been measurable achievements and outcomes leading to real change in the lives of those helped.
