Innovation: Not about a widget, but all about the access

How can the global health community use innovation to reach more people around the world?

Amie Batson, chief strategy officer and vice president of PATH, a leader in global health innovation, spoke with Devex Partnerships Editor Richard Jones on the sidelines of Devex World, about how the international health organization crowdsources in an attempt to innovate simple technologies that can help achieve 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

For example, 220 million women who want access to contraception do not have it. PATH therefore set off to improve upon an existing long-acting injectable contraception technology, in order to provide women across the globe with a safe, convenient device that works. This device, which previously had to be administered in a health clinic, can now be administered by a community health worker — or even self-injected.

Watch the clip to see how Batson emphasizes innovation of access when it comes to global public health goals.
