Health Canada’s Call for Proposals: multi-Substance Use and Addictions Program

Health Canada announces Substance Use and Addictions Program (SUAP) to:
a) provide funding for a wide range of evidence-informed and innovative problematic substance use prevention, harm reduction and treatment initiatives across Canada at the community, regional and national levels
b) target a range of psychoactive substances, including opioids, stimulants, cannabis, alcohol, nicotine and tobacco.

Submissions must target one or more of the following priority areas:
1 – Harm reduction, Community-led and Front-line Initiatives
2 – Increasing Access to Pharmaceutical-Grade Medications
3 – New Approaches to Address Problematic Methamphetamine Use.

Projects can
- address either a priority population – people who use drugs, or a target audience – people or organizations who serve or support this population
- propose to address a combination of the two groups.

Canadian not-for-profit organizations and registered not-for-profit charitable organizations are eligible to apply,

Target audiences can include policy makers, health and social service providers, community-led organizations, and others who provide services to people who use drugs.

Application deadline: September 26, 2019, at 1:00 pm Eastern Time.

Friendly reminders:
1. Study similar calls (open and closed ones) that interest you to discover what they have in common and how you can think ahead/plan to apply = increase your chances of success!
2. Prepare/update paperwork (certificates and atests usually required from an organization like yours);
3. Write (baby steps...!) and discuss a project draft - to validate the priorities within your group and to train your grant writing skills;
4. Do not wait to find a call and then start writing your oroposal/project. Start now!!!

6; Share the opportunities that may not apply to you but can interest others;
7. Spread the word about your failures and achievements in grant requests; yes, tell these storiies too... - they will enlighten and inspire your network.
