Global Minds Doctoral Scholarships Programme - KU Leuven
Global Minds Doctoral Scholarships Programme - KU Leuven

Every academic year KU Leuven selects exceptional students from developing countries as scholarship candidates to obtain their PhD from the largest university of Belgium.

The Global Minds Programme
a) aims to give students the opportunity to conduct PhD research in a ‘sandwich’ system, which means that 50% of the research takes place at KU Leuven and 50% at the home institution of the scholar, supported by a local co-promoter
b) the PhD degree is awarded by KU Leuven
c) scholarships are offered to excellent proposals that deal with a development-relevant research topic, preferably linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Before submitting a GM PhD application, candidates must have their own formal doctoral research topic proposal.
Research proposals must be original and innovative; moreover, they must be clear, goal-oriented and their completion must be feasible within 48 months.
All PhD research must be supported and supervised by a KU Leuven professor.

Utilize This Offer

The candidate must be formally affiliated to a university in his home country as an employee.

Friendly reminders:
1. Study similar calls (open and closed ones) that interest you to discover what they have in common and how you can think ahead/plan to apply = increase your chances of success!
2. Prepare/update paperwork (certificates and atests usually required from an organization like yours);
3. Write (baby steps...!) and discuss a project draft - to validate the priorities within your group and to train your grant writing skills;
4. Do not wait to find a call and then start writing your oroposal/project. Start now!!!
5. Visit the World Pulse website >>> My Pulse >>> Resources and then use its filters (right upper corner) to find what may really suit you;
6; Share the opportunities that may not apply to you but can interest others;
7. Spread the word about your failures and achievements in grant requests; yes, tell these storiies too... - they will enlighten and inspire your network.
