The Embassy of Canada to Tunisia has launched a call for proposals for its 2021-2022 Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) – Tunisia program.

Note: Eligible organizations must be properly constituted, have legal status granted by the competent authority and possess a bank account opened in the name of the institution.

Those that do not meet these requirements may submit their project through an organization sponsoring the project to fulfil the role of intermediary and to take responsibility for the implementation of the initiative.

Priority areas:
a) Inclusive governance, including diversity, democracy, human rights and the rule of law.
b) Peace and security, with a focus on conflict prevention and building peace.
c) Growth that works for everyone, including women’s economic rights, decent jobs and entrepreneurship, investing in the poorest and most vulnerable, and safeguarding economic gains.
d) Gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.Human dignity, covering health, education and nutrition.
e) Environment and climate action focusing on adaptation and mitigation, as well as on water management.

Utilize This Offer

Eligible recipients include:
1. Local non-governmental, community and not-for-profit organizations,
2. Local academic institutions working on local projects,
3. International non-governmental organizations working on local development activities,
4. Intergovernmental, multilateral and regional institutions, organizations and agencies working on local development activities,
5. Municipal, regional or national government institutions or agencies of the recipient country working on local projects, and
6. Canadian non-governmental and not-for-profit organizations that are working on local development activities.

The majority of CFLI funding is to be directed toward local civil society organizations (including non-governmental organizations) and other institutions working at the local level. Other entities, such as international, intergovernmental, multilateral and regional organizations may be eligible for funding, provided they are working with local partners and on local projects that are consistent with the objectives of the CFLI.

Similarly, municipal, regional and national government institutions may receive funding, provided that their projects are essentially local in nature.

The CFLI is always looking to fund innovative projects that deliver measurable results.

The average CFLI contribution is $10,000 to $50,000 Canadian Dollars.

Friendly reminders:
1. Study similar calls (open and closed ones) that interest you, in order to discover what they have in common and how you can think ahead/plan to apply = increase your chances of success!
2. Prepare/update paperwork (certificates and attests usually required by calls such this one);
3. Write - baby steps... - and discuss a project draft, to validate within your group the priorities of the proposal(s) and to train your grant writing skills as well;
4. Do not wait to find a call and then start writing your proposal / project. Start now!!!
5. Do visit regularly the World Pulse website to make customized searches for grant opportunities. How?
a) Click on the Menu (left upper corner);
b) Type the name of your country in the search area (blank space); click enter;
c) Click on Filters;
d) Click on Resource;
e) Browse the results (opportunities) that will show up, by chronological order of posting;
6. Spread the word about your failures and achievements in grant requests. Yes, tell these stories too... They will enlighten and inspire your network;
