The threat posed by the Boko Haram sect on Cameroon is still growing and the part played by the young girl to end this is strategic. Most suicide bombings so far have been perpetrated using girls. To this effect, our Association is working on educating girls to gain consciousness and how to stand firm against any illicit proposals.

Last month, we visited the Western Region of Cameroon, Bafoussam, for such a campaign. The prevalence of poverty and unemployment frequently came up as a point which if tackled could help a great deal. At the end, we had a list of 234 young girls between 17 and 29 years, all school dropouts. They had dropped out from school either because their parents weren't able to keep financing their education to the University or because they got pregnant while in school and their parents withdrew every parental responsibility. However, most of them are involved in petty businesses. These 234 young women, told us their desire to learn new skills which will help them better develop their business or gain new skills for personal development such that they could have paid jobs.

After thinking for a while, we came up with an idea. Given that our Association is not able to send these girls back to school, we want to help them gain new skills by taking Massive Online Open courses. The problem with this is that these girls are not computer literate. We want to teach them how to use the internet and how to register and follow courses online from platforms like edx, coursera and YALI network.

We need logistics (projectors) , pay people to teach these girls. We want to make it as a 5 days workshop. So we need to take care of transportation cost and accomodation of our teachers for these number of days. We've been able to get a hall free of charge from a Catholic church in the environs.

Please, we need you to help us, help these girls to be optimistic about the future.
