Nahapet Quchak, armenian medieval poet
May 28, 2019
Story
Nahapet Quchak is an Armenian poet, and troubadour musician of the medieval century. His poems, which are called “Hayrenner” were written at the beginning of 16th century in Grabar (old Armenian). I tried to translate Some “hayrenner” into English in order to let you know about this talented Armenian poet. Though the translation is made in an amateur style, I hope, it will let you know somehow the nature of these marvelous medieval poems and songs. Enjoy :)

I am an eye and you are a light, my soul,
Eyes become dark without a light.
I am a fish and you are water, my soul,
A fish is dead without water.
When a fish is taken out of the water
To live in other water spaces,
Like when I will be separated from you,
Another choice, than to die, will not stay.
