It has been reported that in Kanungu District in Southwestern Uganda a 12 year old girl had been given away to a timber dealer by her father in consideration for money. Thank God that the mother was against the marriage and notified the district officials who have managed to rescue the girl and the police together with the district officials are looking for the father who is currently on the run.
We need to be vigilant to ensure that early child marriages are prevented. Girls need to be given a chance to study and a chance to have a bright future. STRONGLY say NO NO NO NO to such absolute cultures and customs.
