Letter to Ms. Alice

Dear Ms. Alice,

I hope you are well. I am writing to thank you for teaching me computer skills. At the time I was in senior six vacation and my mum didn’t want me to be idle so she enrolled me into your school that was located on Nkurumah road then.

I remember I really didn’t want to study at the time because I thought it was such a waste of time but I really had no say.  Looking back the computers were so old but they looked brand new and I remember you always told us to look after them because after us, there were many more students who were going to enroll and use them.

You were such a passionate teacher and after the four weeks of the course you made me love computers. I mastered MS-Dos, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft power point. You always made the sessions so interesting and I was really sad that it was just a one month program.

Well I would like to tell you that the one month course in your school remained with me till today. You always taught us that the world was changing and that we should be ready for the evolution in the tech world and always be ready to adapt to the changes so that we are relevant.

At the time few people had cell phones, I for example did not own a phone.  After your class I enrolled into Makerere University and studied a Bachelor of Laws Degree. The world had really evolved at the time because the computers we were able to access were in the secretarial bureaus and this was their business.

I never really had a a chance to practice my computer skills till I graduated from Law Development Centre ,when I started working and had a computer to myself to draft documents and letters.

I could still remember after all those years what you taught us in computer class.  I looked for you after I graduated to say thank but your school had closed and you had moved on.

I was sad because I had never bothered to save your number at the time and I did not know where to find you. However on the brighter side I just wanted to let you know that because of you, I was inspired to continue practicing my computer skills and I am now so good at typing on the keyboard without looking for the letters.

Just like you, I mastered how to type with the eyes on the fingers themselves. I was also inspired to keep up with the new trends in the tech world. I managed to get a smart phone and I adapted to the different applications and am now abbrest with technology.

I now do encourage the women and men in my community to embrace technology not only to reach out to many more people but also as a way of accessing information.

With my phone I am now able to work from anywhere at any time especially since I am always on the move and this has helped me achieve my targets besides meeting deadlines.

I want to thank you for ensuring that I understood the basics of computers and it’s because of that strong foundation I had acquired, that I am able to not only comprehend but also embrace the changes that coaways grant you your wishes.
