Violence Towards the Elderly

The elderly are housed inadequately, malnourished, badly (insufficiently) clothed, and certain are begging on the street to make their living. To mock them, certain shopkeepers give them boxes of matchsticks that are worth 50Fc (Congolese francs). What a pithy for our libraries! (The elderly are like our libraries.)

2) They don’t have the rights to receive medications any longer, and their grandchildren treat them with the help of lay healers (not trained medical staff). Others live in housing that aren't suitable for their physical state. Some of their children live a noble, easy life and does not worry about their parents who made sacrifices for their future. Often nature avenges against these people: they pay their forfeit by losing their fortunes in ordinary accidents, like fires, lightning and other unfortunate incidents. There is a proverb that says:

“When one is young, they jump like a fly” and getting old is a misery

Article 16: An individual is sacred. The State has the obligation to respect and protect them.

SOLUTIONS

1) A house for asylum for people of 3rd age who no longer has kids

2) The Ministry of Social Affairs should protect the elderly

3) Children should be understanding and helpful of their parents during their old age.
