My Soul Sister

I first met Kirthi, when I was invited to participate in an event she was organizing. Her completely calm demeanor and soft spoken voice was the complete opposite of me and my voice. However as our association grew slowly over a period of a year via sporadic coffee/conversations, I discovered the mighty voice that Kirthi has. From championing gender equality, to fighting bullying and stigmatizing at the school level. From actively work shopping about child sexual abuse, safety norms and professional ethics. From creating an app that helps victims of gender based violence, to making her voice heard in all corners of the world, Kirthi is truly a change maker, who will possibly be known and remembered for centuries to come. She possesses that rare quality that makes one sure that, here is someone who is making history.

Her commitment to the human rights dialogue takes many forms through technology, through writing, through drama and art. She is truly an activist who utilizes every single medium to create awareness, start dialogue and initiate change step by step.

She symbolizes sisterhood for me through her selfless nature in lifting her peers up, always being available for advice, shoulders and resources.

I am in awe of her strength and resilience and I can think of no one more suited to receiving this award. She truly is all of our sister.

I nominate Kirthi Jayakumar.
