"Health by Motorbike" for women and adolescent girls in rural Kenya

Dear Rafiki, dear friends and world sisters,

It’s the time for me to take my university students and my 16-year old daughter Sofia and depart for rural Kenya to work with Project Africa on women's health issues. We’ll depart Monday June 14th for Nairobi and after a week in Nairobi we’ll travel to Mombasa and to the three communities we’ll be working in, Lungalunga, Godo, and Perani.

This is the website I’ve developed, way too primitive yet, to show you all the plans for the summer and the activities of the “Health by Motorbike” initiative.

I’ll improve the site as the projects progress and as I learn more web skills :)

Although we have secured funding for the summer and for part of the 2010/11 activities, this is only the beginning of an ambitious initiative to bring health literacy and basic health care to these three communities.

Please, support our work by donating to Project Africa (WorldPulse & PulseWire member organization):

http://www.projectforafrica.org/

Your contribution can make an immense difference in the health of women and girls of rural Kenya. When you donate to Project Africa, specify that your support is for the “Health by Motorbike” Initiative. We need your help especially for malaria treatment and for the purchase of mosquito nets for pregnant women and children under five.

Your donation of $10 can buy 6 doses of malaria medication or a mosquito net for a child
Your donation of $20 can buy 12 doses of malaria treatment or a family-size mosquito net.
Your donation of $50 can save a whole family from malaria.

Furthermore, your donation for mosquito nets will be stretched and maximized by purchasing the materials in Nairobi and by asking the women to produce the nets themselves. That way, your donations will benefit not only the health of families in Lungalunga, Godo, and Perani but also the economic infrastructure of these communities.

Thank you very very much
Asante sana
