What Can Women Do About This Type of Continued Violence?

On Wednesday, October 8th, 2014, in Kibongé square in the town of Kadutu, a women and her daughter were psychologically assaulted.

The daughter was married and a mother of three children, but her husband had been unfaithful since the first month of their marriage. Four years later, the women could no longer stand her husband’s affaires; he would bring other women to their house and spend the night with them in the marital bed while the wife spent the night in the living room with her children. Therefore, the woman returned to her parent’s home to tell them that her marriage was over because her husband was violating her rights.

The mother gave her daughter a container of palm oil so that she could begin to sell it in the square mentioned above. So, yesterday morning, the man went there looking for his wife to tell her to go back to their home. The woman refused and so the husband spilled the container of oil and said “If you say one word, I’ll come tonight and beat you until your parents forget about you” and then he left.

Around 6:45 pm, he came back and began to hit the woman, but the woman’s 15 year-old brother was just arriving to get something to eat and he said to the man, “You can come to our house to talk it out.” The man then grabbed a knife and stabbed the boy, who died on the spot.

His sister and their mother lost consciousness and were taken to the hospital, where they remain. Such a shocking story. No legal action has yet been taken against this criminal. What will become of these women once they leave the hospital?
