Contained within the pen
Is the future and the past
The words declared
Imagined in ink
Ascribed to society
There is a power
Within the pen
One’s thoughts
Transformed into words
Define the sexes
Define the races
Define us.
For centuries
Men controlled the pen
Prescribed our roles
Restricted our bodies
Restrained our minds.
Understanding this
We now know,
She who controls the pen
Controls the power.
What will you write?
Two videos caught my attention today. The first was a video from HONY in which a mystic discusses the “control of the pen”, and second was a clip of Pat Robertson discussing the need to dismiss Saudi murder concerns because we’ve got a 190 billion dollar military arms deal with them. It was another realization that this “pro-life” religious leader actually cares less about lives and more about money. It’s time we give everyone a pen—let us define our own lives, roles, bodies in the ink of identity. https://www.facebook.com/humansofnewyork/videos/2052973148110108/ https://crooksandliars.com/2018/10/pat-robertson-shrugs-saudi-murder-cites
Hi Asherah,
Thanks for sharing your powerful poem and post! I agree that it's time everyone should define their own lives. I kept thinking of the song, "Unwritten." Do you like that song?
Hope you're having a great day!
Yes! I love that song! Thanks for your kind words. Here's to filling many of your blank pages with happiness, joy, and a love-filled life!
Cool:-) You're welcome!
Thanks for the awesome well wishes. Right back at you, dear:-)
Happy Friday, and weekend to you!

Hi Lisbeth. I am doing great, thank you for asking! Here's to finding our voices and sharing our stories! Hope you have a wonderful day too.
Hi Asherah,
I so agree "There is a power Within the pen One’s thoughts Transformed into words". So true too that men have controlled whose words get seen. We are changing that. Welcome to World Pulse!
Hi Tamarack, Thank you! I'm excited to be here. I've been researching and reading history the past ten years and it is quite fascinating to learn about how much of our lives have been defined by men. I'm so grateful to have a place to share my voice and stories and to hear others as well!
Hello, Asherah,
Bravo on another powerful poem! I love the rhythm while reading it. How creative you are for not wasting a single word, and for doing it so artistically. Interesting that you ended with a question, " What will you write?" and how you mention Pat Robinson on your conclusion.
I am currently writing a book about my experience on spiritual abuse. Thanks for sharing this! Hope you have a great day!
Hi Karen, Thanks! I've been writing political poetry for over two years now on various topics ranging from responsible gun regulations, reproductive autonomy, immigration, war, religion, and environmental issues. I LOVE reading non-fiction and history books and find myself inspired by phrases and concepts. I think we can learn so much from our past political mistakes, if we are willing to reflect. I post many of my poems on Pinterest. Good luck on your book--I would love to read it when you are done! I'm so sorry for your suffering. I hope you find peace and healing in your writing/voice!
You're welcome, Asherah. That's great to know. Maybe you can also publish your collection of poems. You write well. They're good for reflection. Thank you for your empathy and encouragement. Hope you have a great day!
Thank you for sharing this beautifull poem ,
I Hope you're having a good day
