Service to my Country

I must admit I am an ambitious person. I am idealistic with how the world should be. I believe there is nothing wrong with dreaming big as long as it is not selfish.

At my age, all I want now is a stable job. It is not really easy to be an adult. There are times I wish I could just stay as a kid, playful and carefree. Now I have to pay my own rent and pay my utility bills. I have to be away from home to have a better job. If only my province could provide better employment opportunities I know no one will have to leave.

I have some frustrations in a world where your talent is not appreciated but you are hired because of your connection, not what you know but whom you know. I want to work in an environment where I am appreciated and where they are thrilled by what I can offer.

One of my major concerns now is the climate change. Philippines is one of the most calamity-prone countries. Recently, we were hit by a major typhoon. More places were flooded, electricity went down, thousands lost their homes, and several people died. Our agriculture is now at stake. Millions of pesos of crops have been destroyed. Bridges collapsed and more places in Luzon are now isolated. Thousands of families are now in evacuation area. There is already scarcity of food. Children and old people are getting sick.

Why are we experiencing such a phenomenon? True, natural calamities are acts of God and it is also true they are the results of the people irresponsible conducts towards the environment. Improper waste disposal is one of the major causes of global warming. It is time for everyone of us to do something about this. Waste segregation and recycling have been an old tale but some people just do not care. They throw their garbage anywhere, into the sea and to the land fill and never practice waste segregation. We have several denuded forest as well.

In my own little way, I went to lecture on my own barangay with regard to Solid Waste Management. I taught them the importance of waste segregation and recycling. I know somehow I have contributed something that will make a great impact. I hope I can still monitor this activity. I wish someone will donate a recycling equipment for us to turn tetra packs to bags and other items.

I want to be a Voice of our Correspondent because I want to share my stories in the world and for me to interact with other people from all over the world. I know from these interactions I can learn from them and they could also learn from me. We can come up with viable solutions to the problem we are facing. My simple dream is to serve my country and people because I know that is where will I find my inner happiness.
