Girls and women with disabilities are still in the den when it comes to Gender Base Violence.

Each year, much is said and done to fight against Gender Base Violence done on girls and women, but the realities of plights faced by girls and women with disabilities in relation to GBV remains the same. Infact as the years go by, increase in violence and abuse is being recorded.

Follow me to these scenarios and try to picture or imagine the effects these will have on girls and women with disabilities:

✓ A girl or woman with disability being raped because of her disability

✓A man who visit a lady with a disability at night, forcefully have sex with her and deny the act in the morning

✓A girl with a disability get pregnant out off wedlock and the pregnancy is shameful rejected

✓A girl with disability is forced to do an abortion because, the deny and reject the pregnancy

✓Administrators sexually abusing young girls and women kept in the care and protection in rehab centers

✓Girls and women being into sexual activities so that they produce offspring to carry family name

✓Girls and women insulted and rejected as potential marriage mates

✓Children abandoned to women with disabilities because the fathers do want to identify themselves with these women.

And I can go on and on, but what is really important is that, it's the human right for every girl and woman to be protected especially girls and women with disabilities as highlight in UNCRPD, article 16. Imagine the effort and sacrifices that are being done each year to organize, educate and advocate for a stop against violence done on girls and women without disabilities, then even more should be done for thisethose with disabilities.

Yes,more needs to be done to educate and create awareness inorder to bring a change, maintain their dignity and ensure the safety of girls and women with disabilities.

Government mechanism needs to be committed to implement policies and rights for girls and women with disabilities, Humanitarian organizations need to be intentional and not passive in disability inclusion, when it comes to awareness raising and advocacy about GBV and for girls and women with disabilities who are advocates and leaders, we need to eager and motivated to use our voice and do visible actions to provoke a change. Let's us have active part in educating, creating awareness and doing visible advocacy.

To this effect I say\" In as much as our voice is a powerful too, visible actions will make our voices louder\"

So,as we make every effort to do what we can to promote, educate and protect girls and women against Gender Base Violence, I look forward to a time when,GBV awareness raising campaigns and others educational talks will be organized by girls and women with disabilities for girls and women with disabilities.
