At 33, I am the youngest member of the county executive committee (the highest decision making organ) in the county government of Busia – Kenya. This is a politically appointed position by the governor who heads the county government. I am in charge of Public Service and ICT. My mandates are policy formulation, general administration and management of delivery of services in the county. I am a transformative leader promoting women's leadership and open communication between the government and citizens by establishing communication platforms that enrich citizen participation. .
Prior to working in the county government I in various Non Governmental Organizations in Kenya and internationally. In World Renew I was a regional program manager in charge of th East and Southern region. Here I supported humanitarian work in various countries. In Action Aid I worked on a land rights project that saw me mobilize women and local communities to push for new land laws that strongly advocated for women's land rights. I have also worked for the International Committee of the Development of People as a technical advisor on Child Protection in a pilot project of UNICEF.
Although I have been on the forefront of pushing for women's rights for long, it is until I occupied my current position that I realized the kind of challenges that women undergo in political leadership. More than ever I am convicted to believe that no women is immune to the different forms of violence and that there has to be increased persistence to fight violence against women. I am determined to push for the inclusion of more women in leadership and to offer them support to execute their mandates within the government.
I am passionionate about writing.
Create more spaces and opportunities for women to pursue leadership at the highest level possible in different sectors through empowering women to explore their full potential
