Betty Makoni Radio Launches UN Day Of The Girl Child in honour of Ariana-Leilani

The most renowned child rights activists unite online to launch UN Day of the girl child via Betty Makoni Radio show today Sunday 7 October 2012. This show will focus on Ariana-Leilani- a girl who has been deprived medication and she represents millions of girls whose lives have been put at risk through various forms of abuse. More and more, Betty Makoni Radio show sets a platform to bring a global discussion forum on what must be done to end abuse of girls and this is the first ever radio program by girl child rights activists to build a global movement that brings the leadership together. UN Day of the girl child is celebrated every 11 October and Girl Child Network Worldwide, Ariana-Leilani Foundation, Leave No Girl Behind have partnered for events across the globe to bring the issues of girls to people and policy makers for change.

A BRIEF ON BETTY MAKONI -RADIO SHOW HOSTESS

Betty Makoni is a multi-global award winner for her work to protect women and girls from all forms of violence. She is a renowned poet, speaker, gender activist, and advocate for girls and women worldwide. She is one of the first African women to be honoured by the United Nations, Women World Summit, Ashoka, Afrikan Goddess Award, Amnesty International and many high profile international organisations for Excellency, innovation and creativity in girls’ empowerment and gender equality. CNN, the Dalai Lama and World’s Children`s Prize singled her out as a hero. Newsweek named Betty Makoni amongst 150 women who shake the world. She has fifteen years working experience and knowledge of women and girls programs and services in sexual and domestic violence.

“One in a Million” Severe Chronic Neutropenia (Suspicious& Untreated)
A 9-year old dual German/ USA citizen has been named “The Little Ambassador” currently is in Washington, DC with a life-threatening very rare (one in a million people) blood and bone marrow disorder called “severe chronic neutropenia”.

For 3 years she has been on the Severe Chronic Neutropenia International Registry (SCNIR) with less than 1000 people world-wide. For over 4 years her father and his medical colleague have denied her the only non-surgical treatment, a medicine, G-CSF or “neupogen” that is free to her. Yet she is given psychotropic medication for ADHD that is secured at the hospital on a monthly basis. Untreated SCN can lead to toxic shock, loss or limbs or loss of life.
All children / adults with SCN who did not receive neupogen have died.

H.E. Ambassador Molelekeng Ernestina Rapolaki
Former Lesotho to USA and Vice Chair for AFI
H.E. Ambassador Molelekeng Ernestina Rapolaki assumed her assignment as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Lesotho to the United States of America in December 2001 until 2008. Since the end of her term, Ambassador Rapolaki has been the Ambassador-in-Residence at Winston-Salem State University. She is also accredited to Brazil, Canada and Mexico on a non - residential basis.
She completed her BA degree in Economics at the National University of Lesotho in 1980 and obtained her MPA with specialization in Population Policy at the University of Southern California in the U.S. in 1993.
Prior to her appointment as Ambassador of the Kingdom of Lesotho to the United States,She held the following positions in the Ministry of Development Planning: Planning Officer, 1980-1985; Senior Planning Officer, 1985 - 1987; Director of Economic Policy, 1987 - 1992; Director of Population and Manpower Planning, 1994 - 1997 and that of Principal Secretary of the Ministry, 1997-2001.
The Ambassador led the process of establishment of the Department of Economic Policy within the Ministry of Development Planning in 1987. She spearheaded the establishment of the Department of Population and Manpower Planning in the same Ministry in 1994.She won a research awarded on Population Policy Communication from the Population Reference Bureau in Washington D.C. in 1993.She contributed Chapters on Population, Health, Education and Mining Sectors in the Economic Options for Lesotho published by the Institute of Southern African Studies (ISAS) at the National University of Lesotho (NUL) in 1997.
She wrote and presented a keynote address on Lesotho's Economic review since independence for Vision 2020 forum held in January 2001. She also received "Women who Make a Difference Award" from the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs Inc. USA in 2002.

An international, non-profit association created by a group of citizens on 15 April 1999, at the initiative of the UNESCO Director-General, Federico Mayor, and under the presidency of Ms. Homayra Sellier, in response to the recommendations of the UNESCO expert meeting convened in January 1999 on Sexual Abuse of Children, Child Pornography and Paedophilia on the Internet, in order to pursue the objectives of the Action Plan adopted by the experts to combat sexual abuse of children. Since 15 April 2000, Innocence in Danger was formalised and operated independently of any other organisation,
Innocence in Danger operates in 29 countries throughout the world, with partners who share the same objectives. IID thus brings together militants, Internet specialists, jurists, political decision-makers, businessmen, media and national action groups to sensitise world opinion on the increasing problems of paedo-criminality.

Roy L. Morris has expertise in complex litigation case management, economics, finance, telecommunications regulation, administrative law, angel and venture capital, and communications and control systems engineering. Mr. Morris is the former Chair for Massechusettes Institute for Technology (MIT) Enterprise Forum Washington DC/Baltimore, high tech startup advisor, and former adjunct professor at Capitol College Graduate School. He has also provided strategic advice to non-profits as part of the COMPASS program of Greater DC Cares.

Dr. King after working with and for children since she was a teenager, finally gave birth to Ariana-Leilani, her first and only child at 41 years old. She considered her pregnancy and birth a miracle and blessing from G-d. Ariana-Leilani is named after the “Ariana” next to the UN Palais de Nations in Geneva
And Leilani means from heaven. Ariana-Leilani is “holy one from heaven.”
