My Journey

I hail from Bihar - one of the most backward states of India. With the determination of our parents to educate us and make us independent, I could gain education from an excellent missionary school. However, as I grew older, I realized that a lot needs to be changed with regards to women in my family as well as my society and thus I decided to join the development sector. Women in our society would never step out of the house inspite of facing constant physical and mental harassment at home, be it by the husband or other family members. I really feel frustrated to see this and want to change this mindset. With an experience of working in the sector for good 12 years I have been blindly following my passion to contribute my bit to the society. It was only last year when I was down with an auto immune disorder wherein my body was totally paralysed and I was bed ridden for almost 6 months. I am still recovering. This tenure on the bed gave me ample time to work towards my vision and I decided to start a more direct intervention. With this zeal and the support of my family I started a skill training programme with a group of local women along with the Sarpanch (Elected leader under the local self government). Anotherlong awaited initiative that was materialized was the support classes and soft skills training of the Municipal School Students. I wish to make this a village a model village and replicate the model elsewhere for the betterment of the most deserving.
