MY PERSONAL ASSET MAP

My heart bleeds whenever I see a youth living in a rural community with no skills, no prospect and just live each day as it comes. I believe in the innate potentials of rural youth and am convinced that they are like raw gold that haven't been harnessed.

Youths in rural community are great asset to every economy if they train and equip them. Female youth are subjected to marry early and some are even exposed to prostitution just for survival. This makes me unhappy.

I realized that whenever I counsel, coach, encouraged people, I feel this joy that I cannot explain. I could go on and on counseling, encouraging people and I wouldn't feel tired and when I ask if they are bored or if am "making sense" I received a go ahead. I find Bliss in inspiring and motivating people. I just believe that "its possible" no matter how hard life knocks us down.

My skills spans from Human resource, Project management, Skill acquisition developer, Entrepreneurship, Writing and Administrative duties bases on my previous work experiences.

I believe in volunteering and I have learnt a lot through giving my time, self to impacting and life changing Project. I volunteered with Stay in School, Street to School, Food shelter in my home country and I was able to see bad living condition of people in slum areas. I also spearheaded a project for aged living in a rural community courtesy of World Merit Nigeria.

Since I realise my interest with rural youth, have been drawn to rural communities and I most say that I presently reside in a rural environment and this is like a constant reminder of what am called to do.

Funding is really a big issue for me though I started a mini fish pond recently for likelihood and also sustainability but projects for my NGOs has been stagnant. I understand the economy situation and just hope things will get better for us to reach out to rural youths. I believe Joining World Pulse and also participating in this course is a good thing for me, I hope to leverage on other sisters skills in this group, influence to pull through regarding my NGO for rural youths.

Dear Bookorla,

Wow! Your journal really touched me. I love that you see rural youth as "raw gold that has yet to be harnessed". What a wonderful metaphor for such untouched potential. It is so wonderful to hear that you have found your calling through counselling. I have no doubt that you make a huge difference in people's lives, and I am not surprised to hear that you receive positive feedback constantly. The world needs more people like you: someone with an open mind and ready ears.

I am so glad to hear that you are looking forward to this training program. Your sisters will have much to learn from you, as you from them. I sincerely hope you find the connections that you need in order to continue in your fight to help rural youth. It's truly a great thing!

Hope to hear more from you soon. All the best in your endeavours!

Dear Bookorla,

Your compassion and concern for the rural youth in your country are very apparent. Those you work with are very lucky to have someone like you looking out for them and working for their empowerment. I, too, find bliss in inspiring and motivating people. In turn, I am nourished by receiving inspiration from others. Your passion and commitment are inspiring. Thank you for sharing your story. I know finding funding can be complicated but your positive energy and dedication will find a way to do the work you seek to do.

Best of luck to you on your journey.
