SHADOW PANDEMIC OF POVERTY AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: WIDC TRAINED AND ESTABLISHED 100 WOMEN AND GIRLS ON HAND MADE NOSE MASK BUSINESS THROUGH THE POLLINATION PROJECT GRANT

To reduce the effect of shadow pandemic of poverty and domestic violence in Nigeria, Women Inspiration Development Center with the support of Pollination Project trained 100 women and girls on how to make “Hand Made Nose Mask.” The women and girls did not only receive training, but they also received the materials to start their own small businesses.

Two things would be the outcome of this training; disenfranchised people would have access to cheaper, affordable and reusable nose mask and also 100 families now have small businesses they could continue to build on to sustain themselves till COVID 19 pandemic lasts.

Coupled with the training and establishment of their business, the 100 women and girls representing 100 families went home with food items that could last them for at least two weeks.

Shadow pandemic of poverty has been killing more than COVID 19 in Nigeria. People, especially women living in the slums could no longer feed themselves again due to the fact that the petty trading and daily paid jobs they usually depend upon collapsed during the COVID 19 lockdown. As a result of the hardship and frustration, domestic violence among this set of people increased tremendously beyond the numbers that used to happen before. We appreciate Pollination Project for sponsoring this program.
