Women Inspiration Development Center orange our world to Say No to Violence Against Women on the last day of the 16 Days of Activism which was also the Human Right Day. We created awareness on violence against women through radio phone-in program at Crown FM Radio in Ile-ife. Majority of the people that phoned in during the program were men. They were all so excited about the program and they all agreed that all of us must join hands together to put a stop to Violence against women. The General Manager of the Crown FM radio and other female staff also joined us in wearing Orange. This program was sponsored by African Women Development Fund. We will continue this awareness campaign through out next year as we visit five villages and we continue the Radio awareness program for 10 Months in two local radios that will be heard in at least 11 states in Nigeria

What an exciting project you are involved in, and how necessary!  It is such important work, this reaching out for awareness of women's rights.  And to think that a majority of the people responding to the radio campaign were men!  That's great. I love the idea of wearing orange and really making a presence in five more cities in your country.  I wish you the best of luck and hope to hear of your continued success in helping women in Nigeria.

You are doing important work--keep it up!

Dear Barbara,

Thank you so much for your comment and encouragement. I am so sorry I am replying to your mcomment very late. Yes several men are supporting our cause but don't be surprise many many of them are not also comfortable with the campaign. Many called the Radio management that they should not allow our campaign again but thank God the management did not agree with them. It is a tough work but we thank God for protecting us.

Busayo,

What a great and visible way to get your message out there! Something so simple as asking supporters to wear the same color can go such a long way. I also found it so wonderful that many of the people who phoned-in were men. It sounds like you have a very supportive and engaged community you work in.

Keep up the good work!

Busayo,

This is a wonderful project, it's a real blessing! I would like to do the same here in my country. I was brainstorming about ways to protect victims, a way for them to come out without fear and share their story. It seems that this project is one of them.

Thank you so much and keep up the good work,

Annadassa

Hi Busayo,

Thank for you reply. I have one question: Did the people calling into the program was heard by others, how was the way it was done?

I will work on this idea for it to happen very soon here in my country. Thank you so much for sharing Busayo!

Hello Annadassa

Yes, as people are coming in, others listening to the program will be hearing them. At times some called in to react to what others have contributed.

Thank you

Busayo

Hello That's was a wonderful way of sending your message home. How did you get the women themselves involved in fighting this course. I believe in our context you are aware of so many cases of violence perpetuated by women on other women. Best wishes in the struggle sister!!!
