I AM LIVING MY DREAM: ONE CLICK GOT ME CONNECTED TO WORLD PULSE AND THE WHOLE WORLD

Women and Girls in Technology in Ghana by World Wide Web Foundation

It was my childhood dream to help the oppressed women, to speak against violence against women, to assist women to be free from shackles of poverty, have economic power and have a voice in our society. I carried this dream for 45 years of my life until through technology I got connected to World Pulse and the whole world in 2009.

One click! My voice was out powerfully, one click! I become a voice to be recon with in the society, one click, I am fulfilling my dream!! Through the connection from World Pulse I attended Empowerment Institute, NY, USA by scholarship.

At the Institute, I learned an innovation called IMAGINE, empowering women and girls to discover the power in them to create the life they most wanted for themselves. I brought this innovation to Nigeria as I registered my NGO, Women Inspiration Development Center in 2010.

To Date Women Inspiration Development Center have empowered about 3,500 women and girls victims of violence that are not sure of a meal per day. This is  translating to the direct impact of improving 62,500 peoples’ lives, and close to 525,000 people indirectly affected through Imagine Empowerment Workshops, Support Groups  and Skill Acquisition training.

Presently to scale this innovation, IMAGINE in Nigeria, I am training 7 Women NGOs leaders who will empower in the next one year 500 women and girls each in their NGOs  translating to the direct impact of 65,000 people's lives and about 650,000 people indirectly affected.

This story was submitted in response to Girls in ICT Day.

Deep bow to our Beacon of Light - BUSAYO. Keep lighting the way my sister. Your words make me realize that we should start to map the infinitely growing ripple effect - the impact from our members, and then the ripple effect from these they are touching and on and on!!! It just keeps going - when you uplift one woman, it keeps going...

Hello, Sister Busayo,

I’m so happy you got the privilege to be mentored and trained via an Empowerment Institute. You made use of this opportunity very well by the impact you created through your initiatives. Congratulations!

I know there are no longer opportunities like this that are available today, but I hope I can have access to trainings and mentorship like what you had, too. Thank you for sharing your ICT journey. It’s inspiring!

Dear Sister Busayo,

You are such an amazing sister. Every time I make a click at a time. I always find your support to encourage for us all. The work you are doing in your community is tremendous The numbers of women you continue to support is an indicator of the great work yo are doing to stop GBV in your community and also helps encourage us to all continue to do so. Am very exited about IMAGINE in Nigeria. Am very very proud of you and you work. Keep up the wonderful work.

With warmest regards,

Rosemary.
