Let's Create Social Impact through Film

Some Girl Nation Project Beneficiaries Filming On Set

I am leading a social impact film project, ‘The Girl Nation Project’, to train young women with technical filmmaking skills and facilitate their production of documentaries and short films that highlight girls’ and women’s rights issues. The films produced are screened in communities to mobilize action, specifically in the area of changed behaviours and attitudes towards adolescent girls and young women.

The Girl Nation project will impact 275 female undergraduates from three public universities; the University of Abuja-F.C.T, Bayero University, Kano and the University of Calabar in Nigeria. The prospective filmmakers will learn valuable skills in the various departments in filmmaking; scriptwriting, storyboard, cinematography, directing, light and sound recording, editing and other skills within the production chain.

The pilot phase of the Girl Nation project already launched and impacted 213 female undergraduates from 2 public universities; the University of Abuja-F.C.T, and the Bayero University, Kano. Each of the university cohorts produced a documentary and short film that have reached over 2500 people in physical screening events across the country and over 200,000 people in online views. And the impact continues to grow every day. With the second edition underway, even greater successes are ahead! #GirlsCanFilm #GirlNationProject #SocialImpactFilm #GenerationEquality #LogOnRiseUp #PersonalAgency #GirlsInnovate #GirlsVoices
