Why This Particular Subject?

Here i am coaching 13-16 year olds at Gold Class College (situated in the High density surburb of Harare, Zimbabwe called Highfield) on the Forms of abuse and how to protect one's self from it

On Thursday 20 September 2018 we had a coaching clinic at Gold Class College in a high density surburb of Harare, Zimbabwe called Highfield. Here we were discussing Forms of Abuse and ways of protecting oneself from it with 13-16 year old boys and girls.

Whenever (as an organisation) we enter a new school or community to speak to children we always start with this particular subject. We understand that by nature children are particularly vulnerable to all types of abuse because of their dependence on adults among others. It is therefore our responsibility as adults to help prevent child abuse and teach our children about it. To teach children effectively, adults should be well informed about the complex impact of abuse on children and other key facts. Whatever advice or instructions are given to children, they must be grounded in honest explanation and a good knowledge of the facts.

Hi Charlene,

Thanks for sharing your synopsis of your latest coaching clinic. It definitely sounds like a good idea to have these workshops. How many of them do you do and how often?

Hope you're having a great day!

Hallo Jill,

Thanks a lot hey. We do as many of these workshops as possible. With some schools we have arrangements to do them twice a month, with others once a month, with others we are just called in anytime. We always have a number lined up. Schools sometimes ask us to bring in subjects of our choice and sometimes they give us the subjects depending on relevance.

So far we have been Coaching around Harare (Zimbabwe capital city). The furthest we have gone outside Harare is Zimre Park which is about 20.8km from Harare. There we have 1 school so far with which we coach the children once a month. We have just come from the school were we had a coaching clinic with 10-12 year olds on Puberty. These are schools and colleges we have agreements with that we come once/twice a month and so on.
We are yet to penetrate into more schools and churches.

Children need to be made aware and taught how to act. Thanks for raising such an important issue.
