Good acts never go unnoticed

I hail and live in the North West Region of Cameroon which is currently plagued by an armed conflict. The conflict has been on for the past three years with thousands dead, internally displaced and some refugees in Northern Nigeria. As the founder and coordinator of a local nonprofit organization (Happy World), I have received cases of violence on women especially with regards to the ongoing conflict. Rape has been very rampant these past years and the rate keeps increasing despite all efforts to reduce the rate .                                             As a young organization and with the current crisis and had a lot in mind regarding celebrating the 16 days of activism against Gender Based Violence especially with the theme of 2018 “Generations equality stands against rape “.Despite my efforts to celebrate this campaign, I had financial difficulties so I could not carry out my activities as planned. However I decided not to stay dormant during this campaign so I partnered with a friend and we carried out social media activism and advocacy. I put up these personalized pictures on my social media handles and then I gave people the opportunity to ask questions and I answered some of these questions and cleared their doubts.                                       The exercise was very simple and interesting but I realized I also gained knowledge on the various aspects of rape from friends and other activists.I didn’t think I did much until after the campaign.I have been receiving rape cases on daily basis.I realized because of the little social media advocacy I did, I am now a rape counselor.I connect some of these victims with organizations that can financially assist them medically. I didn’t think I did much that’s why I didn’t prepare a report after the campaign. Now I have realized every act of kindness is necessary and that’s why I am still bringing my story of the campaign. The power of social media should never be underestimated.
