2020 Reroutes and Unexpected Surprises

I have not posted here for quite some time but for the past year, I have been busy rerouting priorities and reorganizing plans. I believe that many people have done so as well, rather than succumbing to depression or helplessness. It is quite interesting how this health crisis has reoriented the way we manage and look at things. In 2020, I have made the decision to focus more on my writing and getting them released. Hurrah!

For my first book project, I have finally made my 9-year old dream come true of publishing my picture book entitled Harriet Pat and Her Hat. Although I enjoy writing for adults, I also love writing for young readers. My goal is to present everyday lessons through the lens of a child and dive into serious themes but made lighter. I think that children are more perceptive than what we give them credit for. In Harriet Pat and Her Hat, I play with the messages about becoming your own hero, harnessing your own uniqueness, and teaching sustainability.

Since I started talking about it on my Facebook page The Book Den, I have been blessed with love and support for this little book project. I am very grateful. For this, I have decided to give back and share the story of Harriet Pat and Her Hat for free on Amazon. So for 5 days from January 8 to January 12, 2021 (starting at 12:00 AM PST to 11:59 PM PST), Harriet Pat and Her Hat's e-book version will be FREE ($0.00) for all Kindle marketplaces. So please, if you want to read the story or read it to your favourite little person, download away and add it to your e-library! I have shared a similar post on Facebook narrating my surprise by the book's turn out.

I am now working on making this book project grow by translating it into my mother tongue, Bisaya, and to hopefully promote it to young learners in the Philippines where there are not many rhyming picture books written in Bisaya. Also, I am working on the next picture book (to see the character sketch, click HERE) and a collection of short inspirational essays, much like the ones you have read in my previous posts, which will be for older readers. Yes, it is all about writing, writing, writing.

Happy reading and do tell me what you think about it. :)

Hi Den, thank you for sharing your passion to World Pulse PH. Congratulations for your first release children book. I like the artwork and illustration of the book, very creative and eye catching. I downloaded the free ebook and will share it to my niece/nephews. I remember Ms. Potter movie who wrote a Children book, her inspiration was rabbit and duck.

Hi Maeann. Thank you for the support and I hope that your niece and nephews will enjoy reading Harriet Pat and Her Hat. :) The next book will have a different illustration style but just as quirky.

Hello Den,
Congratulations on publishing your first young readers' book. It is a great milestone and the graphics are so inviting. Thank you for your generosity in sharing the book for free to enrich your community. That is so kind of you.
It is also great that you are wanting to reach a marginalized audience among Bisaya speaking children and bring their rhyme home. Good on you. I wish you well on the translation process.
Sending you warm new year wishes :)

Thank you so much! <3

Hello, Den,

Wow, congratulations! You are my She-ro! I am on a book-writing journey right now. Reading your post is an encouragement to me. I checked the links you shared here. You're an emerging Dr. Zeus of the Philippines! I love your rhymes. How inspiring. Thank you for giving us a free book via Amazon! Did you draw all the pictures? I have so many questions. Congratulations again! We're proud of you!

By the way, taga-asa ka nga Bisaya, Den?

HI Karen! Oh your book-writing journey will surely be as exciting --- go, go, go! I have always loved rhyming books since I was a child so I really wanted to create something in that line. As for the illustrations, I did the first drafts and had them polished by another illustrator. On my second book though, I will be working on the illustrations myself from start to end. Thank you for the support and good luck as well! <3

Thank you, Den! I'm personal inspired by your writing-publishing journey. Kudos to you for fulfilling your childhood dream. You're welcome. :) As a Kabayan and fellow Mindaoan, I'm proud of you!
