hi In country like India Though dowry is been prohibited by law , many women suffered dowry demand one or the another way , domestic violence is very common for upper middle class women also. and the main reason behind it is the women are still dependent. yeah, scenario has been changed. girls now getting degree like MBA , MCA , B.A. etc. but they should do work or not still depends on their husband and in-laws. I have only wish that I can make a network of at least 50 women who are having art of knitting or else and can connect them with international market. At least they can earn and feel proud and moreover they feel proud on their self that their art isn't gone in vein. well, I have this in mind but I am also inexperienced girl and want your help / advice to make it possible. Thanks

I have a similar dream to have a store here in the US where I carry products that empower the women who are making them, helping them create a life of freedom for themselves.

Have you tried creating a group of women like you mention on Facebook?

Are there dangers to you if you did something like that?

There is a company called Sudara

with a great story about creating jobs for women in India. Maybe someday you will create your own version of this.

I wish you the best of luck, and maybe we can work together on this someday.

Hello Dhara!!

I really like and believe this kind of projects is what we need to solve so many problems! Thoug it is a hard step to take!

Have you heard the concept of Fair Trade (  Take a look it might help you. They support little producers to have their projects involved in the international community. Besides, I know a girl in Nepal that started a project more or less similar to what you want to do! Take a look at their website and maybe contact them (

Besides that, feel free to contact me for any other help!

Best of luck :)

HI Dhara,

I see what some of those who have advised you have said. It seems they have made it possible for you to take this to the next step, which is research on specifically how to do this We have WHOLE FOOD and other stores who sell what you are wanting to sell. Have you look into the suggestions of what the other commenters have suggested yet?
