Sadza - the food of my heart

My name is Edinah Masanga, I come from Zimbabwe and am a journalist by profession. In my village, a proper meal has to be a good balance between protein and carbohydrates due to the hard work that we do in the various sectors of production.

Here, I am presenting a plate of Sadza - a thick porridge with dough consistency made from maize meal flour, and lamb chops with a vegetable on the side. This is the typical plate of dinner in a household in rural and urban Zimbabwe. Our vegetables vary from cabbage to wild vegetables and wild mushrooms.

Meat is such a big part of our diet as was the custom during ancient traditional life when they survived mostly on meat and wild vegetables.

It is important to note that the maize meal we use is non-refined and therefore healthily rich in fibre. Most of our meat is also free range and free from antibiotics.
