INVESTING IN WOMEN RESOURCE-FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT - A pastoral response

Women are great resources in the society. They are found in almost all sectors in our societies. women are mums, caregivers, nurses, teachers, doctors, security personnel, managers, directors,secretaries, administrators, presidents, clergy,and development officers. Institutions that have benefited from the wealth of resources the women have had overtime can attest to this. it is worth investing in women because women are readily available to use their knowledge and skills for the good of all people, and are willing to go an extra mile for the sake of the families and communities they represent. it is therefore important to invest in them since investing in them benefits everybody. it is also good to make use of the investment in the women resource to that the whole society can benefit from such a great resource. women are seen to be committed, dedicated, respectful,compassionate, understanding,and focused when carrying out their tasks.

There are various ways we can enhance investing in women. to begin with, the women at the grass-root need empowerment for them to be up to date the ways of handling issues they encounter day to day. organizing three to four days seminars to address issues of individual women. families, communities and societies will make the grass-root women be skilled enough to offer their readily available support to the needy among them. economic empowerment of these grass-root women will go along way improving the economic base of the local communities. this in the long run will decrease the gap between the rich and the poor of the communities in which women make a greater percentage.sensitization on matters of health and sanitation will ensure reduced hospital visits, and happy and productive communities.

investing in Women who are married through marriage enhancement seminars, retreats, workshops or short courses will ensure harmony and understanding of dynamics of marriage. this will help have stable families and ultimately create a conducive environment for nurturing children and longevity of marriage relationships.

Encouraging personal development of women who have attained their formal education at high school, Tertiary level, undergraduate level, postgraduate level will ensure improved knowledge, skills and quality of service in the various sector women happen to serve.

it is important to note that investing in women will close up the gender gap that has existed for a long time where women were not able to compete well in the job market due to to lack of education or empowerment to some sort. since women are found at all levels, investing in them is sustainable since their approach to life and life issues is very practical.

finally, we should appreciate the unique contributions women make, and entrust them with the investments which can be realized in due course. we should therefore invest in women, to ensure sustainability of our individual, family, community and society's development.
