This girl's got assets!
Today I am grateful for all the personal and community assets available to me. Completing the assets mapping exercise was extremely valuable. It is amazing, the personal resources that I bring to the table and those available within my community to move me in the direction I need to go.
It gives me great pleasure to share the following personal and community dream that is motivating me. It is so important to build strong, loving families that include economically independent women regardless of the social strata or culture the woman belongs to or the continent on which she lives. This dream is both for me personally and community I live in (and the dream I have for the world of women).
The skills I have to realize this dream, and of which I am most proud, include my ability to function fluently in English and Spanish, besides my native English Kriol language. I am very proud of my formal education training that reached the highest academic level in health and human services specialization. While these skills can help me address the issues I am most passionate about, empowering women for economic independence, they help me to navigate the multiple sources using the worldwide web and other technology in more than one language.
I can use these skills to make better use of asking for help beyond those in my community. I can use both language skills and formal academic training to engage more actively with others to seek out support and assistance. In short, I can use these skills to ask others for the help I need personally and for my community in moving forward. Already I have heard some positive feedback through posts and I can use my skill to build the network. This is what the World Pulse is all about and I sure can use it to become stronger.
I have a number of colleagues, friends and acquaintances who inspire me with what they do for self and others in my community. I go to these strong resources to remind me of the benefit, beauty and strength of the collective versus the individual. A lot more is possible, through the group effort, to build the individual and group. Inspiration comes from these individuals, the spaces in which they work and the changes resulting from their work.
Inspiration also comes from the many beautiful natural spaces that exist in my community. Nature, in all its forms, appeals to me and uplift my spirits. Each day I am consciously grateful for the sweet songs of the birds that wake up in the trees near my window. I am awed, amazed and inspired in thought and in spirit when I sit near the sea and listen to the waves lapping on shore. Each season of fruits that is harvested in my backyard or from a farm remind me of many resources and opportunities to build economic independence of women in my community.
I claim my space!
