Voice to the voiceless

Dear sisters am so happy to be part of this amazing family,my apology for not posting immediately l signed in at world pulse.

My passion  and desire to speak and stand for women was fueled by being denied a privilege to pursue my education further, since in our community, women were expected to be married and enrich their families through dowry payment. I managed to find my space and decided fight for women who are experiencing the same stigma.

When l started working in a a small market Eastern region of Kisumu county, l was met with the real challenges women and young girls are experiencing, an experience that they didn't know how to go about or whom to share with. At that time there was little l could do to help apart from helping them to seek legal redress, which again was not helping much since these women were so poor and could not afford the legal fee.

I found a good friend of mine, a teacher, a paralegal and a family counselor, who also had the same vision as mine. We formed a small circle of women where can meet, share and offer emotional support and encourage one another. the journey hasn't been easy, however its nothing compared to the fulfilment we get from being there for each other.

2018 June we decided to form a non profit community based organization so that we can seek better ways of deconstructing violence against women and to sensitize the young girls and in and out of schools to say no to violence against women and speak out without fear or shame. During one of our many visits to schools we had one girl opening up to us and shared with us her story.

The poor girl stays with her uncle after the demise of her parents. The uncle has been sexually abusing her for and threatened her never to share with any body. Any time this man wants to do his beastly act, he will put a knife near the bed and threaten the young girl that if she try to scream, he will stub her with the knife. It was such a traumatizing experience for these young girl. She lived with coercion and contol and was pushed to a life she neither wanted nor bargained for. Despite the suffering she really begged us not to report or confront the uncle due to threats she received earlier. She was so afraid and could not trust the world anymore. Of course we had to what was expected of us because we couldn't let the girl continue leaving in suffering. The girl is leaving with me now, she's in school and is happier now.

We realized that these kind of stories are so much with us and so many women and young girls are suffering in silence and some end up commuting suicide. I appeal to you my sisters let's join hands together and speak in one voice on violence against women. We are looking forward to have an office soon where we are going to be co host by another firm and l would like to request for small support like office stuffs, be it chairs, tables, cabinets or any donations that we can get, l would really appreciate. We are trusting next year 2020, we get donations and or those we can link with to support our project fulfill some of the objectives.
