This little light of mine, Am gonna let it shine!!

As she closed off her one bed roomed house, left her one little girl in the house, with a candle by the table side, hoping she would run as fast as she can to the nearest shop to buy tomatoes and make a meal for her family ... Little did she know that, the fate of that candle would change her life forever!

In her absence, the little girl fell asleep, the candle fell down and starting burning the entire house - from that moment on, everything she had lived for was gone, she had lost her house, her only child and everything she ever owned! A woman once widowed, now has no child and no where to sleep, It was total darkness from there on!

Stories like these published in my local newspapers not only make be sad, but make me question what I as a person can do to make a difference. As I spent about 4 years of my life working in an IT world, my daily tasks were going out there, setting up servers for Small and Medium sized Enterprises and making sure systems worked. All I knew for all this time was to interact with machines, as long as the systems worked, everything was good!

After searching for how I can cause an impact in my society, came the story I started with... it touched me a lot that I knew I had to be part of the solution, and then in the midst of that soul searching came Solar Sister An innovative Social Enterprise that eradicates energy poverty by looking at three main key issues that affect each one of us, 1. Energy Poverty, 2. Climate Change 3. Women empowerment. Everything I had read about that article about the dreaded fire that took that young girl's life finally started to ring in my head.

Through my online connections, I contacted Solar Sister, and today am the Program Coordinator for Solar Sister in Uganda. The experiences I have had working with Solar Sister are simply amazing, the stories of how lives have been transformed, of how women can now afford an additional income to take care of their families or take Children to school keep me doing what I do now.

Women's voices are being heard through our network, their confidence is rising each day, they are proud to say, they are Solar Sisters now they can do something meaningful in their lives. One woman told us "I used to rent a house and do my tailoring business there because I did not have electricity at home, now I became a Solar Sister and was able to purchase a lighting system, now I work from home, I no longer have to pay rent, we have free sun" - It is such stories that inspire me to be a voice of great women out there.

Through my Solar Sister community, I got to know about WorldPulse... My boss, and founder of Solar Sister asked me to share my story here, a story of one not being fulfilled in life with what we do, but keep doing it because we want to make others happy, I decided it was enough, I quit my job at a telecommunications company and decided I wanted to make a grass root impact in my community!

Am so glad Katherine pointed me to this forum because now I can speak about my journey and stories, and hope to inspire someone out there!

This Journey with Solar Sister and WorldPulse fits into my personal vision, wanting to create an impact in my work, and empowering women and girls to be the best that we can be!

I can only say, This little light of mine, Am gonna let it shine! Follow the amazing Solar Sister story in this video
