Story
According to the World Health Organization, the gender is:
“Genderrefers to the socially constructed characteristics of women and men – such as norms, roles and relationships of and between groups of women and men. It varies from society to society and can be changed. While most people are born either male or female, they are taught appropriate norms and behaviours – including how they should interact with others of the same or opposite sex within households, communities and work places. When individuals or groups do not “fit” established gender norms they often face stigma, discriminatory practices or social exclusion – all of which adversely affect health.”
As you can read “socially constructed”, it means that society (with norms, roles and functions) design what one person should do, should act, should respond and should be in future, according to “the gender”.
A person was born male or female, this is the result of chromosomes, hormones and genetics, but GENDER is the result of what the society say what you will do.
If one society can change and evolve, we can say, that this norms and roles can change to as well? Maybe with this evolve the society allow to persons a better development and a free expression on what they really are.
In a world where men are not taught to be violent or be stoic, and women are not taught to be compliants and submissives maybe we can found less gender violence and more equitable opportunities for both genders.
Why we can start for something simple: let´s our kids playing with all kid of toys, dolls, trucks, ponies, baby dolls, anything! Doesn´t matter if they are male or female kids
