Story
In this modern era of information age, the change brought on by technological advances happen daily,.particularly during this time of isolation and uncertainty and pressing need to prevent the spread of virus COVID- 19 diseases , the need for literacy or skills of information technology for women, of course, the entire members of a society is vital. Information technology is computer based system that has the capability of colleting, processing, and outputting information which may include data, graphs, still images, sounds, and video images among others. To take advantage of these changes, it is necessary to understand and appreciate how information technology plays and affecting the lives of women, of course, all aspect of society.
Of course Information technology is affecting not just women but all aspect of society, and almost every realm- social, economic, health, education, income, employment, relationship, among others. In this regard, we are facing challenges in the community/society we work, the women have less access to information technologically literacy and infrastructure, and only a favored minority of the societal segment is benefiting from the opportunities.
Women constitute /account for more 50% of our total population. women has the lions share as driving force behind entire processes towards achieving the desired development outcomes and information ethnology has the potential to facilitate all. The government and other development actors in the communities/society we work talks, “passion for development, progress and change of the country”, if so attention should be paid to the majority actors- I mean the women empowerment because the majority actors of development- the women need the tools- education including information technologically literacy .
As advocate of women’s human rights, gender equality, I understand the power of information technology for transforming women whilst understanding constraints of resources, nevertheless, equipping the women sufficiently and familiarity with information technology to exploit the opportunity it presents will be unconditionally important. Information technology will ease women’s learning and an entrepreneurial mindset and enable them to exploit new opportunities to advance their social, economic, health and political rights, whilst enable them to involve in their local and national development processes actively and productively.
Therefore, I would like to request upon the government, legislators, and policy makers to issue effective policy that will endorse women’s information technologically literacy; and allocate sufficient resources and infrastructure required for women’s information technology training and education to achieve the women’s health, safety and security particularly protecting oneself from COVID- 19 through acquire of up-to-date relevant information by use of information technology whilst contributing to the effort to ensure the entire society’s development goals.
