September update - Finding our footing

Big Box started off the month of September by continuing the “Meet the Artisans” campaign. By the end of August, we had featured one artisan, Rungi’s which later rebranded to Stitched by Rungi’s. We continued the campaign by featuring Reminac Studios, Dichotomy, and lastly Ten Billion Hearts Foundation.

Ten Billion Hearts Foundation is a foundation that has tasked itself with a mission to establish ten different social enterprises, each creating genuine products and services that best meets the community’s needs while presenting an opportunity for everyone to extend their love across ten billion hearts world all over.

Currently, the foundation has birthed two enterprises;

1) Billion Hearts Farmhouse (A self-sustaining agricultural initiative dealing in the growing and production of organic herbs/spices in addition to rabbit farming. Our farmhouse models sustainable farming practices in small urban spaces).

2) Billion Hearts Academy (a special needs education teaching and training facility committed to pushing the conversation concerning inclusive education across Uganda.)

We also welcomed another brand “Puristy Organics” to our small community of artisans. They are an organic skin and hair care (personal care) products manufacturing company based in Kampala, Uganda. It was started to address the gap and lack of affordable, locally sourced, skin-safe high quality organic personal care products in the cosmetics and personal care industry as well as look into the fair remuneration of the efforts of the female rural farmers who nurture the soils and tend to the trees and fruit that they get our their raw materials from.

September has been a month where we’ve found our footing in terms of team roles and business operations. We have become more comfortable with doing good quality work and growing the business and are one step closer to our goal.

In terms of impact, we continue to empower our youth artisans in small ways like promoting their businesses, sharing business development resources, and telling their stories in an authentic way. We also continue to serve the Ugandan community with a range of good quality locally made products.
