I nomiate Sherna Alexander Benjamin, a phenomenol women and my fellow trini sister, for the Spirit Award

I frist met Sherna at the NGO where I worked and volunteered in 2013, her wide smile and infectous laughter drew me in and I would later find  myself on a flight in December of that year bound for the beautiful Island of St. vinçent and the Grenadines to connect with her on my frist mission trip , collaboration between her and the organization I worked with.  Several communities were devastated by torrential rainfall and massive flooding and landslides ,which resulted in loss of a few lives and mass evacuations to shelters by residents, many of which we visited ,doing needs assessments and providing some relief items ,prayer and encouragement, in essence it was valuable training for me.

As founder of OABI an organization for abused and battered individuals, she worked passionately with her team to raise awareness on domestic violence and  abuse which saw a persistent inçrease especially agaīnst women most times ending in fatality. Her raised voice impacted communities and the campaign Break the Silence ,took  its iniative nationwide and got tĥe attention of those in authority. Sherna became my mentor as I tagged along supporting whether it ŵas a rally around the savannah,a candle light vigil on behalf of a victim ,or making roti for a christmas event for less priviledged children in the community.  And she ŵas only too happy to collab with us to provide transitional housīng fôr a family in need,  she and I working tirelessly  through the nights to make the home comfortable and welcoming, all the while enjoying laughter and bonding in sisterhood. She stood in the audience cheering me for my frist graduation while pursuing tietiary education and encouraged me to share my story in a ĉōlumn in a national newspaper ,speaking on the setback of losing my home and business and my resilience to overcome and continue to pursue success, this article encouraged so many men and women ,some of whom would reach out to me,because it īmpacted them in some positive way

She would also share with me post on World Pulse but life was busy ,with studies and mission work ,and although I would join and get updates in my inbox I didnt become committed till last yêar, and now I know  the impact that  being a WP ambassador can have on developiñg  your  leadership skill . Sherna,s continous drive to be empowered and be educated in the field she serves ,her resilience to rise above cirĉumstances that were meant to destroy her, using it as a catalyst on whiĉh to build a foundation that would champion the cause of so many that suffer in silence,  continues to inspire me up to today, as continues to speak bōldly and advocating from global platforms, truly embodying the spirit of the award. Continue  to sparkle my trini sister.   https://www.worldpulse.com/community/users/sherna-alexander
