I Long To Be

Over the years I have found myself drifting from wanting to be a doctor, a traffic warden a teacher, I could go on and on. However, one thing that remained constant was my quest for freedom and the passions, which rumbled within me about how to solve the world’s problems.

Despite all my education and professional experiences, it is only in recent times I have learnt to overcome pain, hate, and a lot of negative energy that has stopped me from taking my first few steps.

I visualize myself in the future being a prominent change maker. For several years I have felt like an underachiever and have increasingly felt a void in my heart even as I write these words down I feel empty.

Despite having so many developmental goals both personal and communal, I feel I have only achieved personal development which dies with me when I am gone.

Therefore, I would like to be remembered, as the woman who made education available for all girls especially girls in the rural communities who have been abandoned due to life's challenges that fail to see that all humans are imperfect beings. I pray to see the impossibility of today as a future possibility.

Furthermore, I believe that in the years to come my community will be a model, where both men and women can express themselves freely but with respect for the opposite sex. I see women walking and talking confidently with their heads high due to the decisions they have taken in life. I see a better place where men support the progress of the women in their lives and vice versa and where people’s mistakes do not determine their future.

I would like to be a correspondent for voices of the future because; I believe I can be used as a change vessel in making voices heard and also creating an impact not just in my community but the world as a whole. In addition I believe that through my contributions, I will pick up a lot of knowledge and skill and be able share what I have picked up with those around me.

Furthermore, being a correspondent, will enable me express the issues going on in my community and hopefully in time, coerce those in authority to start paying attention to the most important aspects, which affect young girls lives.

In addition, being part of this team will expand my networks due to information flow. I will also enable me to meet people who have long-term experience in similar situations who will serve as guides to me and also show my community and I the best way possible in making people listen to the voices of girls.

More also the skills acquired as a correspondence, will help boost my confidence and negotiation tactics to be able to approach the people in authority and further promote my cause.
