"Success is, liking yourself, liking what you do and liking how you do it" - Maya Angelou.
I am a mother of 4 and grandmother of 1, currently working on a PhD in higher education leadership. I have nurtured a determination to attain education since childhood. Born & raised in Sierra Leone, West Africa where girls' education is not valued, my mother, who got no schooling, wanted me in school. However, she caved in to societal pressure, forcing me into early marriage. So, the path to higher education has not been smoothly paved. But I have come this far by the Grace of the Almighty and my determination. I share my story to let the world know that when given a fair chance, every girl is capable of reaching her highest potential. As the co-founder and Executive Director of a nonprofit, Girls LEAD Change, Inc., I hope to touch the hearts and minds of girls in disadvantaged settings, to overcome negative social trends that hinder their chances of academic & personal success.
A world in which girls and women enjoy equality of rights in all spheres of society!
